We are currently seeking a Soils Inspector (Group 3) to join our Bay Area team. This position plays a crucial role in verifying and implementing the recommendations of geotechnical engineers on-site to ensure that earthwork contractors follow approved plans and specifications. The Soils Inspector will be responsible for reviewing grading ordinances and building codes to confirm compliance with applicable regulations. This role requires the candidate to perform in place density tests, maintain detailed field documentation including reports and laboratory data, and communicate effectively with project managers and supervisors regarding field operations. The position is ideal for individuals with a keen eye for detail, strong organizational skills, and proficiency in technical communication. The Soils Inspector must be able to interpret design plans, maintain up-to-date knowledge of all project activities, and ensure that daily activities comply with safety standards. This role demands physical capability, including lifting up to 50 pounds, as well as the ability to travel and work across all regions of the San Francisco Bay Area.

The employment type is full-time with hourly compensation ranging from $53 to $53.69, dependent on qualifications and experience. This position requires certifications such as ICC Soils Special Inspector, ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician Grade 1, and CPN Radiation Safety Certification for Nuclear Soil Gauge use. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • ICC Soils Special Inspector certification
  • ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician Grade 1 certification
  • Certified in CPN Radiation Safety and Nuclear Soil Gauge operation
  • Minimum 2 years of soils and concrete testing experience
  • OSHA 10 Hour Course completion with certification
  • Strong communication skills
  • Computer proficiency for reporting
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and project instructions
  • Must be able to work throughout San Francisco Bay Area
  • Valid driver's license and clean motor vehicle record
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Job Duties

  • Confirm recommendations of the geotechnical engineer as described in geotechnical reports implemented by the earthwork contractor
  • Read and understand plans and specifications
  • Confirm adherence to regulatory agencies' grading ordinances and building codes
  • Keep up to date on current projects via communication with project managers and other inspectors
  • Perform in place density tests
  • Maintain organized field files containing field and laboratory data, reports, letters, and other documentation
  • Communicate daily with supervisors and project managers regarding field operations, including reporting issues
  • Write daily field reports
