We are currently seeking a Soils Inspector (Group 3) to join our dynamic Bay Area team. This role is vital in maintaining CEL’s commitment to quality by ensuring that all earthwork and construction activities conform to geotechnical engineering recommendations, regulatory requirements, and established standards. The Soils Inspector will be responsible for verifying construction contractor adherence to geotechnical plans and regulations, performing in-place density tests, and keeping detailed records of field operations and laboratory data. This position requires a candidate proficient in reading and interpreting engineering documents, capable of daily communication with supervisors and project managers, and highly organized in documenting field activities. The role offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $53 to $53.69, commensurate with experience and qualifications, and is based within the San Francisco Bay Area.

Job Requirements

  • ICC Soils Special Inspector certification
  • ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician - Grade 1 certification
  • Certified in CPN Radiation Safety and use of Nuclear Soil Gauge
  • 2 years of soils and concrete testing experience
  • OSHA 10 Hour Course completed with certification
  • Excellent communication skills and computer proficiency for daily reporting
  • Ability to reach, analyze and interpret design plans and project instructions
  • Must be able to work in all regions of San Francisco Bay Area
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean MVR
  • Lift up to 50 lbs

Job Qualifications

  • ICC Soils Special Inspector certification

  • Minimum 2 years of soils and concrete testing experience
  • Completion of OSHA 10 Hour Course with certification

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret design plans and project instructions
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Job Duties

  • Confirm recommendations of the geotechnical engineer as described in the geotechnical reports implemented by the earthwork contractor
  • Read and understand plans and specifications
  • Confirm adherence to current regulatory agency grading ordinances and building codes
  • Keep up to date on all current projects via project managers and other technicians or inspectors
  • Perform in place density tests
  • Keep an organized field file containing field and laboratory data, reports, letters, and other pertinent field documentation
  • Communicate clearly and daily with direct supervisor and project manager regarding all aspects of field operations including on-site issues
  • Prepare and review all field paperwork, maps, and test sheets and submit them on a daily or weekly basis
  • Write daily field reports
