Job Description

Consolidated Engineering Laboratories (CEL) is a prominent leader in providing high-quality materials testing and construction inspection services across various regions including Northern California, Hawaii, and Utah. As a well-established union firm headquartered in San Ramon, California, CEL has built a reputation for reliability and excellence in the engineering and construction industries. The company continually invests in skilled personnel and advanced technologies to offer comprehensive solutions tailored to meet each client's unique project requirements. CEL operates with a strong commitment to safety, compliance with regulatory standards, and fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace.

The role of Soils Inspector (Group 3) is a critical position within CEL's Bay Area team, focusing on ensuring the structural soundness and regulatory compliance of earthwork and related construction activities. This position involves meticulous inspection and testing of soil and concrete materials, directly supporting the implementation of geotechnical engineer recommendations documented in geotechnical reports. The soils inspector will be responsible for verifying contractor adherence to grading ordinances and building codes, performing in-place density tests, and consistently maintaining organized field files containing comprehensive project data. This role demands hands-on engagement at various project sites throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, requiring effective communication skills to coordinate with supervisors, project managers, and other field personnel.

Successful candidates will have obtained key certifications such as the ICC Soils Special Inspector certification and ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician Grade 1 certification. Additionally, certifications in CPN Radiation Safety and safe use of Nuclear Soil Gauges are essential due to the technical nature of testing procedures involved. The ideal applicant will bring a minimum of two years of practical soils and concrete testing experience and demonstrate proficiency in daily reporting and interpreting design plans and project instructions. Working under this role offers competitive hourly compensation ranging from $53 to $53.69, aligned with California state standards and the individual’s qualifications and experience.

CEL embraces a supportive work environment marked by equal opportunity, diversity, and inclusion. The company strictly prohibits discrimination or harassment based on any protected characteristic and adheres to all federal, state, and local laws governing workplace equity. CEL's commitment to ethical employment practices ensures that all hiring and promotion decisions are based on qualifications and merit, promoting sustainable career growth for its employees. This position offers an excellent opportunity for professionals aiming to contribute to quality construction inspection while working with an industry leader dedicated to best practices, innovation, and workforce development.
