With a strong commitment to innovation and operational excellence, PNC strategically positions itself in various markets through its focus on technology and collaboration. The company operates nationwide with a range of services across banking, asset management, and technology, supported by a talented workforce in multiple locations including major IT hubs such as Phoenix, Arizona; Denver, Colorado; and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. PNC values diversity and inclusion, promoting an environment where team members can thrive and contribute meaningfully to both individual and corporate goals.
The role of Payments Technology Manager / Payments Application Manager within PNC’s IT Site Reliability Engineering Center is a critical leadership position responsible for overseeing the support, stability, and continuous modernization of the company’s payment platforms. This position ensures the seamless operation of mission-critical systems that support various payment types, including domestic, international, instant, and digital asset payments. The manager will lead globally distributed teams operating 24x7 to guarantee operational continuity and support major incident resolutions and critical production events. This entails a significant responsibility for overseeing application releases, managing change processes, disaster recovery testing, and establishing robust monitoring and observability frameworks to proactively identify and resolve issues.
The Payments Technology Manager acts as a vital bridge connecting business stakeholders, payment operations, vendor partners, and technology teams. Effective communication regarding application health, risks, and strategic initiatives to senior leadership is essential. The role demands hands-on knowledge of core technologies including Java/J2EE, UNIX/Linux, Oracle SQL, IBM MQ, NDM/Connect:Direct, Web Services, CA7 Scheduling, and analytics platforms such as OBIEE. Expertise with modern payment platform technologies such as Java-based microservices, OpenShift, MongoDB, Kafka, and IBM MQ is preferred to support PNC’s evolving payment infrastructure.
Leadership responsibilities extend to managing vendor relationships, mentoring team members to develop domain expertise, driving automation and continuous improvement efforts, and championing a culture of operational excellence and service reliability. The position requires availability beyond standard business hours to provide after-hours operational leadership and involvement in on-call rotations to maintain high service standards.
PNC promotes a collaborative in-office culture where employees are encouraged to maintain work-life balance and professional growth. The company values transparency, innovation, inclusion, and customer-centric approaches as foundational leadership traits. This role offers a competitive salary range between $100,100 and $204,490, with incentive opportunities reflecting company and individual performance. PNC does not provide visa sponsorship for this position and encourages candidates to align with the company’s workplace expectations during the hiring process. Comprehensive benefits, ongoing training, and a dynamic workplace environment make this opportunity appealing to seasoned technology leaders seeking to propel their careers in the payments technology domain.
