The company prioritizes creating an inclusive and respectful workplace culture that empowers employees to contribute meaningfully to the organization's success. PNC’s dedication to operational excellence is reflected in its workforce, which is united by a shared goal of delivering exceptional experiences for customers in all the markets it serves.

This particular role is for a Software Engineering Group Manager within PNC's Site Reliability Engineering Center, operating under the Information Technology Group. The position is based at one of PNC's IT hubs, including Cleveland, Ohio; Birmingham, Alabama; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Dallas, Texas; Denver, Colorado; or Phoenix, Arizona, with a focus on managing the daylight shift. The Site Reliability Center is central to PNC's mission to maintain a stable, reliable, and secure digital environment by enforcing onboarding standards and fostering operational excellence across applications, infrastructure, and security teams.

The Software Engineering Group Manager will lead critical production operations and site reliability engineering efforts across enterprise platforms that directly impact real customer experiences. The role involves technical leadership, incident management, and the advancement of automation and observability practices. Key responsibilities include owning major incident responses for high-impact events, guiding teams through complex outages, and championing root cause analysis to prevent recurrence of issues. The ideal candidate will have a passion for building scalable and reliable platforms, enhancing monitoring capabilities, automating routine operational tasks, and ensuring safe deployments through effective change governance.

In addition to operational leadership, the role encompasses managing distributed teams in a global 24x7 operation, supporting critical systems around the clock. Participating in leadership escalation and on-call rotations outside standard business hours is expected to ensure operational continuity, including during nights, weekends, and holidays. The role requires strong collaboration with various engineering, infrastructure, and vendor teams to foster a blameless culture of continuous learning and operational improvement.

PNC seeks candidates with at least eight years of related experience, including five years in management roles, demonstrating proven leadership in production operations, site reliability engineering, or infrastructure engineering. The candidate should possess deep expertise in incident, problem, and change management in complex environments. The ability to influence engineering strategy, improve operational metrics, and manage high-performing teams is key to success in this position. Strong communication skills and executive presence are essential.

PNC offers a supportive, in-office work environment promoting employee balance and growth. The company does not provide sponsorship for employment visas or participate in STEM OPT for this position. The salary range for this role is competitive, ranging from $146,300 to $298,870 annually, with incentive eligibility based on company, business, and individual performance. PNC also provides comprehensive benefits and emphasizes diversity, inclusion, and equal employment opportunities.
