Job Description

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a global leader in cloud computing, renowned for its comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform. AWS has pioneered cloud innovation, providing a robust suite of products and services that support everything from startups to Fortune 500 companies worldwide. Known for its relentless commitment to innovation and operational excellence, AWS supports massive scale infrastructure, offering reliable, secure, and scalable services that empower businesses across the globe.

This specific role is within the AWS Networking Core team, part of the Network Product Development (NPD) group that manages the control plane software crucial for the Amazon network switches. The Control Plane team is responsible for the design, development, and operation of network control plane protocols and routing stacks that power Amazon's expansive and continuously growing global network infrastructure. The team works closely with routing protocol communities, network engineers, software teams, and various AWS service teams to maintain and innovate the systems underpinning Amazon's network devices.

The role is targeted at a technical leader specializing in software engineering management, focusing on delivering highly scalable, reliable network software solutions. As a Software Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of engineers by driving technical excellence, hiring top talent, and fostering growth within the team. Critical responsibilities include overseeing the entire software lifecycle—from design and development to testing, deployment, and operations—ensuring high-quality, fast delivery of new solutions. You will manage complex projects that require collaboration across diverse stakeholders and maintain a high bar for engineering standards. Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment are essential.

At AWS, you will experience a culture that empowers leaders to take ownership, innovate like a startup, and operate at a remarkable scale. AWS Networking offers a unique opportunity to work on some of the world’s largest data center networks, driving innovations that bridge the gap between networking and software. The role involves working backward from customer needs, setting business metrics to measure impact, recruiting and mentoring engineers, and collaborating with management and customers to innovate continuously.

Beyond technical leadership, working at AWS Infrastructure Services means being part of an organization responsible for the planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, including data centers and servers, networking equipment, power, and cooling systems. This organization ensures AWS customers enjoy seamless, secure, and scalable cloud services worldwide. The environment fosters diversity, inclusion, and a commitment to work-life harmony, offering opportunities for career growth through mentorship and knowledge sharing.

Overall, this position offers a rare chance to contribute to the future of cloud networking, impact millions of customers, and be part of a world-class team that combines technical innovation with operational excellence in one of the most dynamic sectors of the technology industry.
