The Software Development I&T Engineer (Level 3/4) position at Northrop Grumman's Space Systems Sector, located in Redondo Beach, CA, offers an exciting opportunity for experienced software engineers to contribute to cutting-edge satellite ground system solutions. This role involves end-to-end software engineering responsibilities, including designing, developing, integrating, testing, and maintaining advanced applications that support Ground Segment Functions within the iC2 system. Additionally, the role requires familiarity with DevSecOps practices, cloud platforms, and modern Agile methodologies. The engineer will be responsible for creating high-performance services including REST, GraphQL, and gRPC APIs, and working with enterprise-level asynchronous messaging systems like NATS and ActiveMQ. They will leverage advanced Atlassian tools such as Jira, Confluence, and custom reporting dashboards to manage development workflows and ensure efficient collaboration across multifunctional teams. This position demands a high degree of self-motivation, creativity in problem-solving, and the ability to manage diverse assignments effectively while maintaining strong customer and leadership communication. It is essential for the candidate to be willing and able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Top Secret and Sensitive Compartmented Information clearance.

Northrop Grumman offers competitive salary ranges for this role, with Level 3 positions ranging from $114,000 to $171,000 and Level 4 positions from $142,200 to $213,400, depending on experience and qualifications. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years software development experience for Level 3 or 8+ years experience for Level 4
  • Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain DoD Top Secret and SCI clearance
  • Experience developing applications on Linux/Unix
  • Proficiency in server-side programming languages such as Python, C++, Node.js, Go
  • Experience designing and developing APIs like REST, GraphQL, gRPC
  • Familiarity with asynchronous messaging systems
  • Knowledge of SQL or NoSQL databases
  • Proficiency in Agile methodologies and Atlassian tool suite
  • Experience with system integration and testing
  • Strong communication skills
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time

  • Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs, GraphQL APIs, or gRPC services
  • Familiarity with asynchronous messaging systems (e.g., NATS, ActiveMQ)
  • Solid background with SQL or NoSQL database systems
  • Proficient in Agile principles and effective use of Atlassian tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket
  • Strong background in system integration and testing for large, distributed software systems
  • Strong knowledge of integration best practices focusing on subsystem interfaces, APIs, and complex workflows

Job Duties

  • Implement applications software using server-side program languages in Python, C++, Node.js, and Go in a Linux/Unix environment
  • Design, develop, and govern high-performance services (REST, GraphQL, gRPC) and enterprise-level asynchronous messaging (NATS, ActiveMQ) for satellite ground software solutions
  • Utilize Atlassian tool suite, including Jira dashboards, Confluence knowledge bases, eazyBI reports, custom JQL queries
  • Execute program tasking and software development using Agile methodologies, cloud platforms, SQL or NoSQL database systems, scalable database schemas and optimized queries
  • Coordinate cross-functional collaboration, enabling timely development and deployment of satellite ground software solutions
  • Own development and execution of features for satellite ground systems domain, with familiarity in reading CAMEO/MBSE models
  • Coordinate and execute integration and testing activities to ensure software components function cohesively within the system
  • Work closely with other teams to integrate software features as they are completed, identifying and resolving issues proactively
