Job Description

Emerald Queen Casino is a premier gaming and entertainment destination owned and operated by the Puyallup Tribe of Indians. Located in Tacoma, Washington, the casino offers a wide variety of gaming options, exceptional hospitality services, and vibrant entertainment experiences. As part of a respected tribal organization, Emerald Queen Casino is committed to not only providing superior guest service but also supporting the local community and upholding tribal values. With a focus on integrity, responsibility, and innovation, the casino fosters an inclusive and dynamic environment for its employees and guests alike. This setting provides an exciting and stable workplace that encourages career growth and professional development within the gaming industry.

The Soft Count Clerk role at Emerald Queen Casino is a vital full-time position responsible for ensuring the accuracy and security of the casino’s cash handling processes. The starting wage for this role is $21.58 per hour, increasing to $22.16 per hour upon successful completion of a 90-day orientation period. This position offers significant benefits, including employer-paid medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, making it an excellent career opportunity.

In this role, the Soft Count Clerk is tasked with performing daily cash counts and precisely recording the contents of casino drop boxes by adhering strictly to department policies and procedures. This includes the sorting and counting of chips and currency, verifying the amounts of strapped currency, posting and consolidating games summary sheets, and reconciling posted figures with counted amounts. Accuracy and attention to detail are paramount to prevent discrepancies and to ensure the integrity of casino operations. Moreover, the Soft Count Clerk supports the broader casino goals by promoting superior guest service and upholding high standards of professionalism.

The position demands a keen understanding of cash handling protocols and the ability to maintain thorough records. Additionally, the Soft Count Clerk must be physically capable of standing for extended periods, handling manual tasks such as bending, reaching, squatting, and lifting up to 40 pounds, and tolerating a smoke-filled environment. Flexibility in working various scheduled shifts, including day, swing, graveyard, and holiday shifts, is essential. The role also requires applicants to obtain a Class III A license in compliance with regulations set by the Puyallup Tribal Gaming Regulatory Office and the Washington State Gaming Commission.

Candidates for this role should be prepared to undergo pre-employment drug testing, with the caveat that marijuana use will not disqualify a candidate unless driving a company vehicle is involved. Emerald Queen Casino embraces equal opportunity employment principles and gives Indian Preference in accordance with tribal policies. This position offers a comprehensive suite of licenses and certifications related to cash handling, sexual harassment prevention, SAR (Suspicious Activity Reporting), and Title 31 SARC to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Overall, this is a dynamic and rewarding career opportunity for individuals who are detail-oriented, dependable, and thrive in a fast-paced casino environment. The Soft Count Clerk plays a critical role in maintaining the financial accuracy and operational integrity that supports Emerald Queen Casino’s reputation for excellence and guest satisfaction.
