Job Description
The Urban League of Greater Madison is a renowned nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing economic opportunity, community development, and civil rights. With a proud local and national legacy, the Urban League focuses on creating pathways for underserved communities to achieve financial independence and business success. The organization operates various programs that support education, employment, housing, and economic empowerment. As a leading community institution in Madison, Wisconsin, it offers resources, advocacy, and partnerships to foster growth and equity for all residents.
The Urban League of Greater Madison is seeking a mission-driven, experienced, and hands-on Small Business & Entrepreneurship Program and Events Manager to join their Business Hub Accelerator Program team. This full-time, exempt position is based in-person at their facility located at 2352 S. Park Street, Madison, Wisconsin. The role requires flexible working hours, including frequent evenings and weekends, to accommodate classes, special events, and other program activities.
In this role, the Program and Events Manager will be responsible for supporting a diverse array of current and aspiring small business owners, from microbusinesses and Main Street food and retail operations to growth-oriented, tech-enabled ventures. The focus is on enhancing the financial understanding, operational practices, and long-term sustainability of these businesses. The manager will engage directly with entrepreneurs through business coaching, designing and implementing educational programming, coordinating well-executed workshops, networking events, and other activities linked to the Black Business Hub. By fostering a supportive ecosystem, this position contributes to the Urban League's mission of sustaining and growing underserved businesses.
The ideal candidate brings strong business and financial acumen, confidence in coaching entrepreneurs at various stages, and the ability to translate complex business concepts into practical, actionable guidance. Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential to effectively manage multiple tasks and collaborative partnerships. The position involves working independently as well as part of a dynamic team and requires a high degree of initiative and goal orientation. Through strategic planning and community engagement, the manager plays a key role in expanding access to capital, strengthening partnerships, and delivering impactful events that cultivate a vibrant entrepreneurial community.
This opportunity offers an excellent benefits package, including generous paid time off (vacation, sick, and holidays), family health insurance with 85% premium coverage, flexible spending plans, life and disability insurance, and optional dental and vision coverage. This role is ideal for a professional passionate about economic equity, business development, and community empowerment in the Madison area. Interested candidates should apply prior to the deadline of Friday, April 10, to be considered for the position.
