Job Description

The Emerald Queen Casino is a renowned entertainment establishment operated by the Puyallup Tribe, boasting a rich heritage and commitment to excellence in hospitality and gaming. Located in Washington State, the casino offers a vibrant and dynamic work environment that honors Native American values while fostering a respectful, customer-oriented atmosphere. Known for its world-class gaming experiences, dining options, and entertainment venues, the Emerald Queen is dedicated to providing a superior guest experience through attentive service and polished professionalism. As one of the leading employers in the region, it emphasizes employee development, cultural respect, and community engagement.

The Slahal Restaurant, part of the Emerald Queen Casino complex, serves as a welcoming dining destination that combines quality cuisine with exceptional customer service. Within this thriving establishment, the Slahal Host-Hostess/Cashier role plays an integral part in ensuring the smooth operation of daily dining activities and fostering positive guest relations. This full-time position offers a competitive starting wage of $17.02 per hour, increasing to $17.61 following successful completion of a 90-day orientation period. Employees also benefit from comprehensive employer-paid medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans.

As a Slahal Host-Hostess/Cashier, you will serve as the initial point of contact for guests entering the Slahal Restaurant, making a lasting impression by delivering superior guest service. The role includes a diverse set of responsibilities such as greeting and seating guests, managing reservations, assigning tables to servers, and maintaining a clean and organized host area. Accompanying these duties, you will handle monetary transactions like calculating daily receipts accurately and making change, showcasing both your customer service and cash-handling skills. This role demands excellent grooming, manners, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, hospitality-focused environment while adhering to the casino’s rigorous standards.

The position requires applicants to have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, complemented by at least six months of restaurant experience. Additional essential qualifications include a valid Washington State food handler’s card and the ability to pass a pre-employment drug test. The Emerald Queen Casino mandates all employees to obtain a Class III B gaming license, reflecting the high regulatory standards that govern tribal gaming operations. Flexibility is crucial, as the role often involves working varied shifts including days, swings, graveyards, and holiday hours. Physical endurance is also necessary to stay on your feet for extended periods, manage stair mobility, and perform duties in environments where smoke may be present.

The casino prioritizes equal opportunity and cultural inclusion, offering Indian Preference hiring policies in alignment with tribal directives. Compliance training such as TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures), customer service excellence, sexual harassment prevention, and cash handling certification are also provided to equip you for success in this position. If you are passionate about hospitality, enjoy working in a bustling, customer-centric setting, and meet the outlined requirements, the role of Slahal Host-Hostess/Cashier at Emerald Queen Casino offers an excellent opportunity to build a rewarding career within a respected and multicultural establishment.
