The position of Skilled Trades Instructor within The Children’s Cabinet focuses primarily on overseeing and delivering construction training as part of its Workforce Development & Education programs, including the well-regarded Washoe YouthBuild initiative. This full-time, non-exempt role offers a pay rate between $68,000 and $80,000 annually, providing a stable, year-round employment opportunity. As a Skilled Trades Instructor, you will be responsible for meticulous planning, managing, and executing construction-based learning experiences that cultivate technical skills, hands-on engagement, and workplace readiness for program participants.

In this role, you will deliver direct instruction on construction fundamentals such as blueprint reading, construction mathematics, estimating materials, jobsite organization, and industry best practices. Your expertise will extend beyond classroom teaching to practical, real-world applications, overseeing active construction projects while ensuring compliance with safety standards, including OSHA regulations. The position plays a vital role in creating a safe and structured learning environment by enforcing proper use of personal protective equipment, conducting safety briefings, and maintaining jobsite safety protocols.

Additionally, you will serve as a mentor and coach, fostering professional behavior, accountability, and career preparedness among participants. You will coordinate work-based learning opportunities in partnership with employers, unions, and apprenticeship programs, helping to build bridges that enable participants to successfully enter apprenticeships, employment, or postsecondary training. The position also involves developing and maintaining relationships with community stakeholders, supervising the use and maintenance of tools and equipment, and documenting participant progress and certifications.

This role requires a blend of construction industry expertise and youth development skills. You will be expected to adapt instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, manage multiple construction projects and priorities concurrently, and collaborate effectively with case managers, education instructors, program coordinators, and external partners. Participation in ongoing professional development is encouraged to stay current with workforce development trends and construction instruction best practices.

The Skilled Trades Instructor position may involve working in a variety of settings including classrooms, construction training sites, community service locations, and employer worksites. Flexibility to occasionally participate in evening or weekend programming is required.
