Job Description
Cabot Corporation (NYSE: CBT) is a global leader in specialty chemicals and performance materials, headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. With a rich legacy spanning over 135 years, Cabot is renowned for delivering innovative products and solutions that serve diverse industry sectors such as transportation, infrastructure, environment, and consumer goods. The company leverages advanced chemistry and deep application insights to address customers’ challenges while preparing them for future industry trends. Cabot’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence drives its global footprint and product leadership, including specialty carbons, battery materials, aerogel, fumed metal oxides, and conductive compounds.
Cabot Corporation is looking for a senior, highly engaged Site Safety, Health & Environment (SH&E) Manager for its Billerica Technology Center. This site is unique, featuring a multi-functional, research-driven environment encompassing laboratories, pilot-scale operations, offices, and support functions. The SH&E Manager will serve as the primary on-site authority for all safety, health, and environmental matters, leading strategy, execution, and fostering a culture of safety excellence. This role is integral to the site's leadership team, reporting directly to the Facility General Manager, and acts as a trusted advisor to both leadership and employees.
Unlike traditional manufacturing roles, this position requires a leader adept at combining regulatory and management system ownership with hands-on involvement in dynamic R&D activities. The SH&E Manager will define and implement the site’s safety vision, ensuring compliance with regulations and corporate standards such as Responsible Care®. This includes overseeing SH&E management systems, performing self-assessments, driving continuous improvements, and leading incident investigation and risk management. The position involves regular presence in labs and operational areas to engage employees, promote risk awareness, and maintain a visible safety culture across the site.
As a senior-level leadership role based in Billerica, MA, the Site SH&E Manager will influence safety and environmental performance through strategic planning and daily execution, supporting the site’s commitment to maintaining a safe and sustainable workplace. The role also entails collaborating with global SH&E networks and corporate resources, contributing to sustainability initiatives, and ensuring robust SH&E training and onboarding for all staff, contractors, and visitors.
Cabot Corporation offers a competitive salary range of $124,550 to $180,600, along with premium benefits such as health, dental, and vision insurance starting from day one, 401K savings plans, and performance-based annual bonuses. The company prioritizes creating an inclusive, collaborative, and values-driven culture that respects diversity and fosters continuous improvement. Employees benefit from ongoing professional development, leadership opportunities, and a supportive, engaging work environment dedicated to safety, integrity, and sustainability.
Candidates who may not meet every qualification are still encouraged to apply, emphasizing Cabot’s commitment to diversity and equal opportunity. As a drug-free workplace, candidates must pass background checks and drug tests as part of the hiring process. Cabot Corporation is an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Affirmative Action (AA) employer, committed to accommodating employees’ disabilities and religious practices in accordance with applicable laws.
