This exciting role is for a Construction Site Safety Professional responsible for ensuring strict compliance with health and safety laws for the entire company. The candidate will be instrumental in establishing and maintaining comprehensive safety policies that create a secure workplace environment. This role requires exceptional attention to detail to recognize hazards and a proactive approach to improving safety conditions on construction sites. The professional will execute diverse safety programs effectively and be capable of communicating essential safety guidelines across various teams within the company. The ultimate objective of this role is to guarantee that all job sites meet legal safety requirements and foster occupational health and safety actively.
Responsibilities encompass becoming familiar with project-specific construction safety and security requirements, attending mandatory health and safety meetings and training, and conducting detailed daily safety observations with thorough documentation. The Construction Site Safety Professional will regularly patrol job sites to identify and address any health or safety concerns, review safety equipment, personnel procedures, and traffic control measures, and provide timely guidance to rectify hazardous or noncompliant actions. Additional duties include managing site-specific safety programs, ensuring workers comply with Cal/OSHA drug testing, conducting new project orientations, reviewing subcontractor safety plans, and assisting with incident investigations as necessary. The position involves collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and requires a deep understanding of Caltrans specifications, California Code of Regulations Title 8, and state and federal safety ordinances. Effective communication skills and a background in heavy civil construction are essential to succeed in this role.
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of two years of relevant experience in vertical, tunnel, or heavy civil construction with proven expertise as a safety representative. Certification in key safety areas such as First Aid, CPR, Confined Space, Fall Protection, and the Cal/OSHA 30-hour construction training course is required. Preferred qualifications include professional safety certifications from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals such as Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician (OHST). This position demands availability for varied shifts—including day, night, or overnight—and willingness to relocate to Valencia, California before the job start. Additionally, the role requires being on the road frequently, with 50 percent travel expected. C. A. Job Duties
- Become familiar with construction safety and security requirements of assigned projects
- Attend all scheduled health and safety meetings and training sessions
- Conduct daily safety observations and document work activities including delays, permits, site visitors, and corrections
- Walk construction sites to note health or safety deficiencies and recent corrections
- Perform site safety reviews of equipment, personnel, procedures, and traffic control
- Provide counseling to correct hazardous, at risk, or noncompliant work activities
- Review uncontrolled hazards or security vulnerabilities with contractors
- Provide daily reports with photographs to the Construction Owner/Agency
- Respond to construction incident scenes and assist with investigations
- Develop and revise site-specific safety programs
- Confirm workers' compliance with Cal/OSHA drug testing
- Conduct on-site new project orientations
- Review subcontractor work plans
- Attend pre-planning sessions for high hazard work
- Review work schedules for job hazard analyses
