Job Description
Novolex is a prominent manufacturer specializing in food, beverage, and specialty packaging solutions that cater to diverse industries such as foodservice, restaurant delivery and carryout, food processing, grocery and retail, and industrial sectors. With extensive manufacturing and sourcing expertise, Novolex utilizes a range of materials including resin, paper, molded fiber, and aluminum, offering customers a vast selection of products. The company proudly manages 120 product categories, 250 brands, and over 39,000 SKUs, underscoring its commitment to providing both stock and customized packaging solutions that meet the unique needs of its clientele.
Novolex is deeply committed to sustainability, anchoring its efforts on three essential pillars: products, operations, and people. These pillars serve as the foundation for the company’s wide-ranging sustainability initiatives, all aimed at supporting long-term business growth and environmental stewardship. This commitment aligns with Novolex’s vision to create products and operate its facilities in ways that minimize environmental impact while also fostering safe, healthy workplace environments.
The role of Site Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager at Novolex’s Chelmsford, MA facility is a critical leadership position responsible for overseeing and driving the site’s EHS strategy. The incumbent plays a vital role in ensuring regulatory compliance, advancing continuous improvements in workplace safety and environmental performance, and fostering a strong safety culture among all employees. This position reports directly to site leadership and serves as an enthusiastic participant in leadership team activities, aligning teams and stakeholders to achieve high standards of health and safety.
This salaried role offers a competitive compensation range of $100,000 to $125,000 annually, supplemented by a bonus and comprehensive benefits package. Novolex’s benefits include a 401(k) plan with company match, medical, dental, and vision insurance, flexible spending and health savings accounts, paid vacation, sick days, parental leave, holidays, and an employee wellness program. Additional financial protection benefits comprise life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, and disability insurance. Employees also have access to education support initiatives such as tuition reimbursement, the Chairman’s Scholarship, and a 529 College Savings Plan. The company fosters a culture of value sharing through its Broad Based Employee Award Program and further supports employees with an Employee Assistance Program.
The ideal candidate for this position demonstrates a passion for injury prevention, compliance, and risk reduction and possesses the skills to drive change within the facility effectively. They should be adept at aligning teams and influencing others while maintaining an enthusiastic and visible presence within the site leadership team. The Site EHS Manager organizes the Safety Committee and leads safety training programs tailored to facility needs, while also managing accident investigations, emergency response plans, and regulatory reporting such as OSHA requirements. They conduct regular audits, liaise with plant management to resolve hazards, and maintain crucial safety documentation including Safety Data Sheets (SDS). The role requires proactive engagement with continuous improvement initiatives and maintaining a safe operational environment.
This position demands physical activity involving standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting up to 30 lbs, and working in a typical manufacturing environment that includes exposure to seasonal temperature variations and machine-related noise. Flexibility to work non-traditional business hours is necessary to meet operational needs, especially given the facility’s 24/5 schedule and customer demand patterns. The successful candidate must be comfortable wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and demonstrating strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills to prioritize and organize tasks effectively in a dynamic environment. Bilingual Spanish skills are preferred but not mandatory.
Novolex fosters an inclusive culture and is an equal opportunity employer, supporting all qualified applicants regardless of age, race, gender, disability, or other protected statuses. This role represents an excellent opportunity for professionals seeking to contribute meaningfully to safety and environmental excellence within a leading packaging manufacturer known formerly as Pactiv Evergreen.
