Job Description

Suffolk is a prominent national enterprise recognized for its comprehensive approach to construction management, real estate investment, design, self-perform construction, and technology start-up investments through Suffolk Technologies. With its headquarters in Boston and 17 offices nationwide including key markets such as New York City, Miami, Dallas, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, Suffolk boasts more than $9 billion in annual revenue and a workforce of approximately 3,000 employees. This company is revered for managing some of the most complex and transformative construction projects across various sectors including healthcare, life sciences, education, gaming, aviation, transportation, government, mission critical, and commercial sectors. Suffolk integrates cutting-edge data analytics, artificial intelligence, and advanced technology to streamline the building process through its proprietary Seamless Platform. This platform uniquely connects design, construction, and operations, enabling smarter and more predictable construction outcomes that aim to redefine industry standards across America.

Suffolk offers a workplace culture and total rewards program designed to support employees' physical, emotional, and financial well-being. Among the benefits are competitive salary packages, auto allowances, health benefits including medical, dental, vision, access to mental health resources, virtual care, generous paid time off, a 401k plan with employer matching, company-paid life insurance options, short- and long-term disability coverage, commuter benefits, and backup daycare provisions, ensuring that employees’ diverse needs are aptly met.

This particular role based in New Haven, Connecticut, specifically focuses on AI Engineering within Suffolk’s innovative construction projects. The AI Engineer acts as the on-site catalyst transforming artificial intelligence concepts into practical solutions that significantly enhance project execution. Collaborating closely with the project’s AI Champion—typically the Project Manager or Superintendent—the role involves identifying inefficiencies, reimagining workflows, and deploying AI tools to simplify reporting processes, streamline requests for information (RFIs), and improve lookahead planning along with materials tracking. The engineer also develops user stories and coordinates with Suffolk’s central AI Studio for solution development. This high-impact position drives Suffolk’s vision of the “Construction Site of the Future,” demonstrating the transformative capabilities of agentic AI on construction site productivity and operations.

The role demands a thorough understanding of advanced AI technologies including AWS Bedrock, SageMaker, ChatGPT Enterprise, and other frameworks. Responsibilities extend to building enterprise-grade AI pipelines, orchestrating cross-cloud AI deployments, integrating robust data pipelines with the Data Engineering team, and ensuring compliance with stringent information security and data governance standards. Emphasizing continuous improvement and change enablement, the AI Engineer leads training, collects feedback, and tracks AI adoption and return on investment metrics, applying influence models to embed tech solutions into daily workflows.

Successful candidates will have 4 to 6+ years of relevant experience in AI engineering or full-stack data applications, a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields (Master’s preferred), hands-on experience with AI coding assistants such as Claude Code and Devin AI, and robust programming skills in Python, SQL, and related technologies. Prior experience in construction or heavy process industries and certifications like Lean or Six Sigma Green Belt are highly desirable. The role also requires a deep commitment to collaboration, technical excellence, and the ability to adapt quickly in dynamic job site environments. An eagerness to travel and work on active construction sites rounds out the ideal candidate profile.

Overall, this opportunity provides a unique blend of cutting-edge AI technology applied to the construction sector, offering the right professional an exciting platform to drive innovation and operational excellence in one of the nation’s leading construction firms.
