Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading broadline foodservice distributor that plays a pivotal role in supporting a wide variety of local customers across the United States. The company serves independent restaurants and hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, quick-service eateries, and other foodservice operations. Performance Foodservice prides itself on fostering close relationships with its customers through a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other experts who provide valuable insights on menu development, operational strategies, product selection, and overall operational improvement. This dedication goes beyond simply delivering food—it represents a commitment to helping independent foodservice operators achieve their business goals and grow sustainably.
The company offers a well-rounded work environment that promotes safety, inclusiveness, recognition, and respect while emphasizing growth opportunities for its employees. With competitive pay, comprehensive benefits starting from day one such as health and wellness programs, employee stock purchase plans, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off, Performance Foodservice demonstrates a strong commitment to the wellbeing and advancement of its workforce.
The Shuttle Driver position is an essential role within Performance Foodservice’s operational logistics framework. Scheduled primarily for Sunday through Thursday evenings, with specific dispatch times from 6pm to 8pm, this role provides critical transportation support by moving empty trailers to the Operating Company warehouse locations and returning full trailers to domicile or shuttle yard locations. Shuttle Drivers operate tandem trailers, tractor trailers, and straight trucks on both intrastate and interstate routes, adhering strictly to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations to ensure safe, timely, and efficient trailer delivery.
A mandatory two-week training program in Little Rock introduces new hires to the company’s procedures and expectations, with travel arrangements discussed during the interview process. Safety is paramount in this role; drivers conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections and maintain rigorous compliance with DOT and company safety guidelines. The role requires a proactive approach to reporting safety issues or required repairs and entails responsibilities such as hook/unhook procedures, securing freight, managing damaged goods and customer returns, and completing accurate daily logs of hours of service.
Shuttle Drivers must exhibit strong teamwork and professional communication skills as they interact with customers, vendors, and co-workers. They must also demonstrate physical capability to handle product cases weighing between 60 to 90 pounds and safely use equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates during their shifts. This role offers a pathway to growth within a stable company committed to providing a safe, rewarding work culture, excellent compensation, and career development opportunities.
