Performance Foodservice is currently hiring for the position of Shuttle Driver. This role is essential to the company's operations, as the Shuttle Driver is responsible for transporting empty trailers to the warehouses of the operating company and then delivering full trailers loaded with various products back to domicile or shuttle yard locations. The driver plays a crucial role in ensuring the timely and safe movement of these goods, supporting America’s food distribution system effectively. The role requires driving tandem trailers, tractor trailers, or straight trucks on both intrastate and interstate routes. Compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations is mandatory, along with the maintenance of safety standards.
The Shuttle Driver acts as a professional representative of the company, interacting with customers, vendors, and coworkers in a courteous and timely manner. This position requires a team-oriented mindset and readiness to perform any duties necessary to best serve the company. Key responsibilities include conducting safety inspections before and after trips, reporting any safety concerns or needed repairs, ensuring freight is correctly loaded and secured, following route schedules, and completing all required documentation in compliance with DOT, state, and company policies.
Working a schedule primarily from Sunday through Thursday with dispatch between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM, the Shuttle Driver benefits from competitive pay at $37.50 per hour with weekly paycheck distribution. Job Requirements
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent experience
- 12 months of commercial driving experience
- Valid CDL A with doubles endorsement
- Must be 21 years of age
- Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
- Clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
- Work required 3rd shift schedule, Sunday-Thursday nights
- Pass pre-employment drug test
- Pass road test
- Valid current DOT health card and/or able to secure new DOT health card
- Able to hand-lift and utilize equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift

Job Duties
- Performs all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation regulations
- Reports all safety issues and/or repairs required
- Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
- Inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
- Ensures all required route paperwork is with tractor trailer load and available to driver upon dispatch
- Drives and delivers trailers according to predetermined route schedule
- Performs hook/unhook procedures per safety guidelines
- Parks and stores tractor trailers in designated areas
- Ensures all equipment and freight are appropriately locked and/or secured
- Collects and secures damaged goods and customer returns in empty trailer to bring back to driver check-in at base facility and complete necessary paperwork
- Unloads all equipment, materials and removes trash from trailers as required
- Completes daily record of hours of service and enter in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
- Performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keeps trailers clear and clean as required
- Performs other related duties as assigned
