Job Description

US Foods is one of the largest foodservice distributors in the United States, providing a comprehensive range of food products and services to restaurants, healthcare facilities, hospitality organizations, and other foodservice customers. With a strong reputation for quality, reliability, and customer service, US Foods has built a culture centered on collaboration, continuous improvement, and career growth. The company actively promotes from within and invests in excellent training programs to support employee development. This makes US Foods not just a workplace but a community of food people dedicated to making great food accessible and operations easy for its customers.

The Shuttle Driver position based in Chesapeake is an essential role within US Foods' logistics and transportation operations. The primary responsibility of the Shuttle Driver is to safely operate tractor trailers transporting various products — including meats, produce, frozen foods, and dry goods — between remote dispatch sites. This role is critical to maintaining the supply chain and ensuring timely distribution of food products. Shuttle Drivers may also be called upon to perform duties of Backhaul or Delivery Drivers as needed, providing flexibility within the team.

This position offers competitive compensation, starting at $25.00 per hour during training and with the potential to earn up to $75,000 annually including incentives. The pay structure is further enhanced by overtime opportunities where applicable. US Foods supports a strong safety culture, emphasizing the wellbeing of its drivers on the road and at work. The company provides an extensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision insurance, 401K plans, life insurance, and more to support both the personal and professional lives of its employees.

Successful candidates for the Shuttle Driver position at US Foods must possess a valid CDL Class A license with necessary endorsements and DOT qualifications. A minimum of six months of commercial driving experience is required, with a preference for those holding doubles endorsements and experience driving doubles. Due to the nature of the job, drivers must be comfortable working overnight shifts and driving in various weather conditions. There is also a preference for experience or ability to operate manual transmissions, as this may be required in certain locations.

Additionally, candidates must register with the FMCSA Clearinghouse, a secure federal database tracking commercial driver drug and alcohol program violations. This registration is a mandatory legal requirement that supports the company’s safety standards. Communication skills in English are essential, including the ability to understand and respond to traffic signs and official inquiries, as well as completing necessary reports and records.

US Foods is dedicated to creating a supportive workplace where integrity, reliability, and teamwork are valued. Shuttle Drivers are crucial ambassadors for the company, delivering not just food but trust and quality service to customers. The company culture emphasizes helping employees succeed both on and off the road by fostering a respectful and rewarding environment. For individuals passionate about driving, logistics, and being part of a rapidly growing foodservice leader, the US Foods Shuttle Driver role offers career stability, development, and fulfillment.
