This position is for a Shuttle Driver working night shifts between 4 pm and 7 pm with daily pay of $200. The Shuttle Driver plays a crucial role in the operational efficiency of Cheney Brothers by transporting empty trailers to warehouse locations and delivering loaded trailers to shuttle yard or domicile locations. This role requires safe driving practices, adherence to Department of Transportation regulations, and the ability to communicate professionally with customers, vendors, and coworkers. The successful candidate will operate tandem trailers, tractor trailers, and/or straight trucks, ensuring the timely, safe, and accurate movement of goods that support America’s food distribution system.
In the Shuttle Driver role, you will be responsible for performing daily safety inspections of vehicles and trailers, reporting any safety concerns or needed repairs, and ensuring all freight is loaded and secured according to safety standards. You will handle various procedures such as hook/unhook operations, parking and storing tractors and trailers in designated areas, and collecting damaged goods or returns for processing. Additionally, maintaining cleanliness in the tractor and loading dock areas, completing necessary paperwork and logs, and performing other related tasks as assigned are vital duties you will undertake. Job Requirements
- Pass pre-employment drug test
- Pass road test
- Work required 3rd shift schedule, Sunday-Thursday nights
- Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
- Valid CDL A with Doubles Endorsement
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent
- Clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for past 3 years
- Must be 21 years of age
- Valid current DOT Health Card and/or able to secure new DOT Health Card
- Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift
Job Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent
- One year or more commercial driving experience
- Valid CDL A with Doubles Endorsement
- Must be 21 years of age
- Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
- Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for past 3 years
- Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift
- Valid current DOT Health Card or able to secure new DOT Health Card
Job Duties
- Perform all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations
- Report all safety issues and repairs required
- Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
- Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
- Ensure all required route paperwork is with tractor trailer load and available upon dispatch
- Drive and deliver trailers according to predetermined route schedule
- Perform hook/unhook procedures per safety guidelines
- Park and store tractor trailers in designated areas
- Ensure all equipment and freight are appropriately locked and secured
- Collect and secure damaged goods and customer returns in empty trailer to bring back to base facility and complete necessary paperwork
- Unload all equipment, materials and remove trash from trailers as required
- Complete daily record of hours of service and enter in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
- Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keep trailers clear and clean as required
- Perform other related duties as assigned
