Job Description
Cheney Brothers is a renowned food distribution company recognized for its commitment to excellence and the prosperity built on the efforts of its more than 3,000 dedicated associates. With a foundation grounded in a supportive culture, Cheney Brothers is focused on enabling talented people to excel in their roles while providing access to world-class leadership, comprehensive benefit packages, and numerous opportunities for career advancement. The company prides itself on fostering an innovative and inclusive workplace, where continual investment in the future drives success across its operations. This has positioned Cheney Brothers as a leader within the food distribution industry, supporting America’s food supply chain through essential and reliable services.
The role of Shuttle Driver at Cheney Brothers is a critical position within their logistics operations. Reporting directly to the dispatch center, the Shuttle Driver is mainly responsible for transporting empty trailers to operating company warehouse locations and delivering loaded trailers back to domicile or shuttle yards. This role requires operating tandem trailers, tractor trailers, and straight trucks on both intrastate and interstate routes. The driver ensures timely and safe delivery while adhering strictly to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety policies.
This full-time, night-shift position offers competitive pay ranging between $60,000 and $65,000 annually and follows a Sunday to Friday schedule with one day off during the week. The dispatch time typically starts at 7:00 PM, making this role well-suited for candidates who prefer working at night. A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) class A with doubles endorsement is required to qualify, alongside a clean motor vehicle report and at least 12 months of commercial driving experience.
As part of the role, Shuttle Drivers perform essential safety checks, including pre- and post-trip inspections of trucks and trailers, and ensure that all freight is properly loaded and secured. They are expected to follow company guidelines on safety, immediately reporting hazards or required repairs. Additionally, drivers handle paperwork accurately, perform hook and unhook procedures, and maintain cleanliness and organization of vehicles and work areas.
Cheney Brothers emphasizes not only operational performance but also teamwork and professional communication with co-workers, vendors, and customers. In this role, drivers act as representatives of the company and are tasked with upholding the highest standards of customer service and professionalism.
The company offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes day-one health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and generous paid time off. Employees at Cheney Brothers enjoy a safe and inclusive work environment characterized by rewards, recognition, and mutual respect.
Overall, the Shuttle Driver role at Cheney Brothers provides a unique opportunity to be part of a dynamic and growing company where your contributions directly support the critical food distribution network. Individuals who thrive in structured, safety-conscious environments and who meet the qualifications are encouraged to apply and join this dedicated team driving America’s food supply forward.
