The Shuttle Driver position at Performance Foodservice plays a crucial role in the logistics and transportation segment of the company. This role involves transporting empty trailers to various warehouse locations and delivering full trailers loaded with products to shuttle yards or domiciles safely and efficiently. Working primarily on a Sunday to Thursday evening schedule with dispatch hours from 6 pm to 8 pm, the Shuttle Driver is expected to adhere strictly to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations to ensure safe and compliant freight movement. New hires will undergo a mandatory two-week training program in Little Rock, which highlights the company’s investment in proper onboarding and skill development. Compensation for this role ranges from $204 to $255 per night, reflecting the importance of reliable and professional driving services in maintaining the supply chain.

The Shuttle Driver is responsible for operating tandem trailers, tractor trailers, or straight trucks on intrastate and interstate routes. This position demands a high level of safety consciousness, attention to detail, and the ability to manage various vehicle inspections and maintenance reporting requirements. Additionally, the role requires excellent communication skills to interact professionally with customers, vendors, and colleagues. Job Requirements

  • Pass pre-employment drug test
  • Pass road test
  • Valid current DOT Health Card and/or able to secure new DOT Health Card
  • Work required 3rd shift schedule, Sunday-Thursday nights (schedules may vary)

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED
  • 12 months commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL A with Doubles Endorsement
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for past 3 years
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift

Job Duties

  • Performs all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
  • Reports all safety issues and/or repairs required
  • Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Ensures all required route paperwork is with tractor trailer load and available to driver upon dispatch
  • Drives and delivers trailers according to predetermined route schedule
  • Performs hook/unhook procedures per safety guidelines
  • Parks and stores tractor trailers in designated areas
  • Ensures all equipment and freight are appropriately locked and/or always secured
  • Collects and secures damaged goods and customer returns in empty trailer to bring back to base facility and complete necessary paperwork
  • Unloads all equipment, materials and removes trash from trailers as required
  • Completes daily record of hours of service and enters in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
  • Performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keep trailers clear and clean as required
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
