Job Description

McLane is a prominent leader in the distribution industry with a history dating back over 130 years. Established in 1894, McLane has built a vast nationwide network serving the restaurant, retail, and e-commerce sectors, making it an essential cornerstone in moving, supplying, and providing for America’s favorite brands. This company prides itself on a people-centered culture and a continuous embrace of innovative technology and training, ensuring it remains agile and effective in meeting client needs. As an organization dedicated to safety, reliability, and excellence, McLane offers an environment where drivers and team members can build long-lasting, fulfilling careers. The commitment to a diverse and inclusive workplace is evident with equal employment opportunities regardless of age, race, gender, or veteran status.

The Shuttle Driver role at McLane is a crucial position responsible for the secure movement of trailers between the Domicile and Distribution Centers. This job demands a dedicated and safety-focused individual to handle the delivery of full trailers and the return of empty ones efficiently while maintaining high safety standards. This position is a full-time career opportunity that offers industry-leading pay ranging from $68,000 to $74,000 annually. The dispatch times are generally between 7am and 9am, allowing drivers to have predictable daily schedules and more time at home compared to other driving jobs.

The Shuttle Driver plays an integral role in McLane’s supply chain operations, ensuring that products are transported without damage and that vehicles are inspected properly in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The role includes responsibilities such as inspecting rigs pre- and post-trip, maintaining detailed logs manually or electronically, occasionally performing line-haul and backhaul duties, and adhering strictly to safety protocols to prevent injury or property damage. McLane supports its drivers with a comprehensive benefits package effective from day one, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, company-paid life insurance, and access to flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts.

Additionally, drivers accrue paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays, along with participation in a 401(k) profit-sharing plan after 90 days. McLane also offers numerous other benefits such as pet insurance, maternity and paternity leave, employee assistance programs, discount programs, and a tuition reimbursement program, emphasizing a supportive and rewarding workplace culture. Candidates are expected to meet McLane’s rigorous standards, including holding a valid Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL-A), having at least one year or 50,000 verifiable miles of tractor-trailer driving experience, and passing MVR and risk rating qualifications. A commitment to reading, writing, and understanding English sufficiently for safety and effective communication is also essential. Overall, this role is perfect for drivers who are reliable, adaptable, dedicated, and focused on safety, who want to advance their careers with a respected industry leader.
