Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a prominent division of Performance Food Group (PFG), is one of the leading broadline food distributors in the United States. The company plays a pivotal role in supporting various local customers, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. With a dedicated team composed of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other industry experts, Performance Foodservice is committed to building strong relationships with its customers. The company's focus extends beyond delivering quality food products; it provides valuable advice on improving operations, menu development, product selection, and overall operational strategies. This comprehensive approach empowers independent restaurant owners and other food service providers to thrive and achieve their business objectives.
As a member of the Performance Foodservice team, employees work in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment that emphasizes rewards, recognition, and respect. The company values growth opportunities and offers competitive pay along with a range of benefits, which include Day 1 Health & Wellness Benefits, an Employee Stock Purchase Plan, 401K Employer Matching, Education Assistance, Paid Time Off, and more. The organization prioritizes employee well-being and fosters a strong sense of community, cooperation, and professionalism within all levels of the business.
The Shuttle Driver position at Performance Foodservice is an essential role responsible for transporting empty trailers to various Operating Company warehouse locations and delivering full trailers to domicile or shuttle yard locations. This role requires safely driving tandem trailers, tractor trailers, and/or straight trucks on both intrastate and interstate routes. Shuttle Drivers must strictly adhere to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations while ensuring the timely and secure delivery of freight across designated routes. In this capacity, the driver acts as a representative of the company, communicating professionally with customers, vendors, and fellow employees.
The job schedule includes working primarily Sunday through Friday with 1 to 3 trips dispatched between 2:30 p.m. and 12 a.m., depending on load requirements. New hires undergo a comprehensive two-week training in Temple, Texas, to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in this role safely and efficiently. To incentivize new drivers, Performance Foodservice offers a competitive annual salary ranging from $60,000 to $70,000, along with performance incentives that can total up to $2,000 annually based on quarterly achievements. Additionally, a $5,000 sign-on bonus is available under specific terms.
The Shuttle Driver's duties extend beyond driving and delivery, involving conducting safety inspections of equipment, completing necessary documentation, securing freight, performing hook and unhook procedures, maintaining cleanliness of vehicles and work areas, and reporting any safety hazards or repair needs promptly. Physical demands include the ability to lift and maneuver product cases that generally weigh between 60 to 90 pounds, using equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates. Because of the nature of the work, candidates must be 21 years or older, hold a valid CDL A license with doubles endorsement, possess a clean driving record, and satisfy all relevant DOT health and licensing requirements. Additional screenings, including pre-employment drug tests and road tests, are part of the hiring process.
In summary, the Shuttle Driver position at Performance Foodservice offers a rewarding career with substantial growth opportunities in a vital segment of America's food distribution system. This role provides not only financial incentives and competitive benefits but also the chance to be part of a company that supports and contributes meaningfully to the food service industry.
