The Night Shift Shuttle Driver role at Cheney Brothers is pivotal in ensuring the smooth and efficient distribution of goods by transporting empty and full trailers between warehouse locations and shuttle yards. This position requires operating tandem trailers, tractor trailers, or straight trucks on both intra- and interstate routes. The Night Shift schedule runs Sunday to Saturday with one day off weekly, catering to operational needs during non-standard hours and offering an average annual pay of $45,000. The role demands a strong adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, safe driving practices, and effective communication with customers, vendors, and colleagues.

As a Shuttle Driver, responsibilities extend beyond driving to include performing detailed safety checks, inspecting loads, and ensuring freight security and proper documentation. The driver is also tasked with logistical duties such as loading and unloading trailers, maintaining tractor and trailer cleanliness, and recording hours of service in compliance with federal regulations. This role requires a high level of professionalism, teamwork, and dedication to meeting delivery schedules and company safety policies. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 12 months commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL A license with doubles endorsement
  • Age minimum 21 years
  • Comply with all state licensing and certification requirements
  • Maintain a clean motor vehicle report for the past 3 years
  • Available to work night shift schedule Sunday to Saturday with 1 day off weekly
  • Pass pre-employment drug screening
  • Successful completion of road test
  • Possess valid current DOT health card or ability to obtain one
  • Physically capable of hand-lifting and operating required equipment to move freight weighing 60 to 90 pounds
  • Adherence to Department of Transportation regulations and company safety guidelines

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • 12 months of commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL A with doubles endorsement
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
  • Work required 3rd shift schedule, Sunday–Thursday nights (schedules may vary)
  • Pass pre-employment drug test
  • Pass road test
  • Valid current DOT health card and/or able to secure new DOT health card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift
  • Product generally ranges from approximately 60 to 90 pounds, depending on the location

Job Duties

  • Perform all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation regulations
  • Inspect tractor/truck and trailer to ensure they meet company safety standards and take appropriate action as needed
  • Report all safety issues and/or repairs required
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Immediately report all safety hazards
  • Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Ensure all required route paperwork is with tractor trailer load and available to driver upon dispatch
  • Drive and deliver trailers according to predetermined route schedule
  • Perform hook/unhook procedures per safety guidelines
  • Park and store tractor trailers in designated areas
  • Ensure all equipment and freight are appropriately locked and/or always secured
  • Collect and secure damaged goods and customer returns in empty trailer to bring back to driver check-in at base facility and complete necessary paperwork
  • Unload all equipment, materials and remove trash from trailers as required
  • Complete daily record of hours of service and enter in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
  • Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keep trailers clear and clean as required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
