Job Description

Cheney Brothers is currently hiring for the position of Shuttle Driver, a vital role within its logistics and transportation operations. This role primarily involves the safe and timely transportation of empty trailers to warehouse locations and delivering full trailers loaded with various products to domicile or shuttle yard locations. As a Shuttle Driver, you will be an essential part of the company’s food distribution network, supporting the smooth flow of goods and contributing to maintaining the integrity of the supply chain. The position operates on a night shift schedule with dispatch times between 4 pm and 7 pm and offers attractive daily pay of $200.

The Shuttle Driver role requires a CDL Class A license with a doubles endorsement and involves hauling tandem trailers, tractor trailers, or straight trucks on both intrastate and interstate routes. Key duties include performing rigorous safety checks on the vehicle and trailer before and after trips, ensuring compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and managing proper loading and securing of freight. The driver must also communicate professionally with customers, vendors, and co-workers, uphold company safety guidelines, and ensure all equipment and freight are securely locked and maintained. Additional responsibilities include handling damaged goods and customer returns, completing daily records of hours of service, and maintaining general cleanliness and orderliness of the vehicles and loading areas.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid CDL A license with doubles endorsement
  • Minimum one year of commercial driving experience
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Clean motor vehicle record for past three years
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug test
  • Ability to pass road test
  • Valid DOT health card or ability to secure one
  • Ability to work night shift schedule Sunday through Thursday
  • Ability to safely lift and handle freight weighing 60 to 90 pounds
  • Must meet all state licensing and certification requirements where applicable

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • One year or more commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL A with doubles endorsement
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for past three years
  • Ability to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate, and other equipment to move and stack product cases/freight weighing approximately 60 to 90 pounds throughout shift
  • Valid current DOT health card or able to secure new DOT health card
  • Ability to work required third shift schedule, Sunday to Thursday nights, with possible schedule variations
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug test and road test

Job Duties

  • Perform all required safety checks including pre-trip and post-trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations
  • Report all safety issues and repairs required
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Ensure all required route paperwork is with tractor trailer load and available to driver upon dispatch
  • Drive and deliver trailers according to predetermined route schedule
  • Perform hook/unhook procedures per safety guidelines
  • Park and store tractor trailers in designated areas
  • Ensure all equipment and freight are appropriately locked and secured at all times
  • Collect and secure damaged goods and customer returns in empty trailer to bring back to base facility and complete necessary paperwork
  • Unload all equipment, materials and remove trash from trailers as required
  • Complete daily record of hours of service and enter in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
  • Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keep trailers clear and clean as required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
