The role of Shuttle Driver at Cheney Brothers is essential in maintaining the seamless transportation of trailers that facilitate product distribution across the company's network. This full-time, night-shift position operates Sunday through Thursday, beginning with a 3:00 pm dispatch, offering competitive daily pay of $225. Shuttle Drivers at Cheney Brothers are responsible for transporting empty trailers from multiple warehouse locations to shuttle yards as well as delivering fully loaded trailers containing various products. These operations are carried out on both intrastate and interstate routes, emphasizing strict adherence to Department of Transportation regulations to ensure the safe handling and timely arrival of freight.

Shuttle Drivers perform pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections to guarantee that tractor-trailers meet company and DOT standards. The role demands vigilant reporting of safety issues and necessary repairs, managing route paperwork accurately, and securing freight during transit. Upon delivery or pickup, Shuttle Drivers execute hook and unhook trailer procedures following established safety guidelines and ensure the cleanliness and orderliness of their work environment, including trailers and loading docks. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year or more of commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL A with Doubles Endorsement
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean motor vehicle report for past three years
  • Willingness to work Sunday through Thursday night shift
  • Pass pre-employment drug test
  • Pass road test
  • Valid current DOT Health Card or ability to secure new one
  • Ability to hand-lift and utilize equipment to move products ranging from 60 to 90 pounds

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One year or more of commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL A with Doubles Endorsement
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Report for past three years
  • Ability to work a third shift schedule, Sunday through Thursday nights
  • Pass pre-employment drug test
  • Pass road test
  • Valid current DOT Health Card or ability to obtain one
  • Ability to hand-lift and use equipment such as two-wheeler and lift gate to move product cases/freight between 60 and 90 pounds

Job Duties

  • Perform all required safety checks including pre and post trip inspections of tractor, truck, and trailer according to DOT regulations
  • Report all safety issues and repairs required
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Ensure all required route paperwork accompanies tractor trailer load and is available upon dispatch
  • Drive and deliver trailers according to predetermined route schedule
  • Perform hook and unhook procedures per safety guidelines
  • Park and store tractor trailers in designated areas
  • Ensure all equipment and freight are appropriately locked and secured
  • Collect and secure damaged goods and customer returns in empty trailer and complete necessary paperwork
  • Unload equipment, materials, and remove trash from trailers as required
  • Complete daily hours of service record and enter in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
  • Perform housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keep trailers clear and clean
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
