The Membership Director role at the YMCA is a pivotal position responsible for overseeing all aspects of membership for the local branch. This involves directing recruitment efforts for new members, as well as developing strategies to retain existing members. The role requires supervision of both full-time and part-time staff, ensuring that all team members are effectively trained, supported, and motivated to meet branch goals. A key responsibility includes localizing association-wide membership initiatives to maintain a consistent and excellent member experience across all membership centers.

They coordinate membership enrollment processes, including logistics for phone, walk-in, and web registrations, and work closely with marketing teams to boost program and membership enrollments.
Data analysis and strategic planning are integral components of this role. The Membership Director uses membership data to drive improvements in member satisfaction, tour conversion rates, and retention rates. Additionally, they manage the branch’s membership budget, ensuring financial goals are met and variances are addressed promptly. Front desk procedures and membership draft processes are also managed under this role to ensure smooth operations.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Previous supervisory experience in customer service preferred
- Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
- CPR and First Aid certifications may be required

Job Duties
- Implements membership strategies that support recruitment of new members and retention of existing members
- Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills in all interactions
- Recruits, hires, trains, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed
- Reviews and evaluates staff performance
- Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals
- Promotes program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members
- Coordinates program registration, including logistics to support phone, walk-in and web registration
- Coordinates with marketing efforts to maximize enrollments
- Ensures membership staff have access to all necessary information to answer member inquiries
- Uses data to plan and execute strategies designed to improve member experience, tour-conversion rates and membership retention rates
- Coordinates localized membership retention and sales initiatives in line with association-wide membership strategies
- Participates in the planning and management of the annual budget for membership
- Ensures proper implementation of front desk procedures
- Oversees bi-weekly membership draft and collections processes
- Organizes membership events and represents the YMCA at community events
- Facilitates requests for donations
- Administers branch scholarship program from application receipt through approval and renewal
- Provides timely notice of scholarship awards and enters subsidy and membership in Daxko
- Provides scholarship renewal reminders
- Assists in marketing and distribution of program and membership information
- Provides branch leadership support for the annual fundraising campaign
- Serves as Leader on Duty as assigned
- Works flexible schedule including nights and weekends
- Participates in membership cabinet and staff meetings
- Performs additional responsibilities as appropriate within the scope of the position
