Job Description
Cox Fleet is a prominent fleet maintenance company headquartered in Indianapolis. It has risen to become one of the largest and most trusted providers of mobile maintenance and repair services for fleets across the nation. Specializing in light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks and trailers, Cox Fleet offers extensive mobile on-site services as well as access to over 50 nationwide service centers. Each of these service centers provides comprehensive capabilities, including accident repair, painting, refurbishment, and heavy mechanical repair. The company also supports its operations with a 24/7 in-house call center, ensuring scheduled preventive maintenance and unscheduled repairs can be delivered promptly and efficiently to fleets anywhere, at any time. Cox Fleet is part of Cox Automotive, a leader in the automotive service industry, which emphasizes innovation, quality service, and career growth opportunities for its employees.
This job opening is for a Shop Trailer Mechanic I role within Cox Fleet. This position is a dedicated on-site shop opportunity rather than emergency roadside repair, providing a stable work environment for those seeking a reliable place to grow their career. The Shop Trailer Mechanic I is primarily responsible for performing Department of Transportation (DOT) inspections, preventive maintenance inspections, and light repairs, focusing on trailer components such as brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, and steering systems. This role also involves assisting more experienced technicians with complex repairs and continuously developing advanced mechanical and diagnostic skills. The ideal candidate will adhere to all company policies, prioritize safety, maintain high performance standards, and work efficiently within the shop.
The role demands proficiency in using hand tools, precision instruments, and various shop machinery including welding equipment, lifts, and jacks. Documentation skills are essential since the mechanic will be required to accurately complete repair orders and DOT forms using company digital tools. Moreover, the Shop Trailer Mechanic I will participate in company-required safety training, comply with federal, state, and organizational safety and environmental regulations including OSHA, EPA, and DOT standards, and maintain service vehicles and tools in optimal condition. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates looking for a career in vehicle and fleet maintenance and seeking a company that invests in employee growth with technical training and a clear career progression path. Cox Fleet also values integrity, teamwork, and technical excellence, offering a work culture that encourages learning and professional development.
Cox Fleet offers competitive compensation, including a $3000 new hire bonus distributed in two payments at 30 days and 180 days. Employees enjoy benefits such as health, dental, and vision insurance starting from day one of employment, 401(k) matching with company contributions after 90 days, and up to five weeks of paid time off based on tenure. Additional perks include tuition assistance, adoption and surrogacy support, pet insurance, employee discounts, and a supportive work environment with uniforms and safety equipment provided. Employees receive their pay weekly for convenience and are equipped with a tablet and company cellphone to facilitate their work. With over half of frontline managers promoted from within, Cox Fleet is committed to nurturing career development and professional success. This role is ideal for those who have a high school diploma or GED, up to two years of relevant experience, and a commitment to safe driving and mechanical aptitude. Candidates must also meet DOT requirements including passing a background screening and physical examination, and possess or be willing to obtain ASE certifications. Overall, Cox Fleet provides a rewarding career opportunity in a stable and growing company dedicated to the highest standards of fleet maintenance and employee support.
