Job Requirements
- Stand and walk for 4-8 hour shifts and move about the shop
- Perform repetitive tasks with hands, wrists, and forearms to operate espresso machinery
- Detect and perceive smells of coffee
- Clearly and effectively communicate with customers and team members
- Lift up to 5 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally
Job Qualifications
- 1-2+ years of fast-paced retail/hospitality management experience with preference for coffee or food & beverage
- Strong technical barista skills in all areas of drink preparation
- Exceptional people management skills with experience holding team members accountable while coaching and developing them
- Understanding of profit and loss statements with ability and desire to improve shop operations
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
- Consistent demonstration of integrity and reliability
- Ability to solve complex problems with multiple variables
- Comfort using computer programs such as Google Drive tools
- Desire to grow skills and assume greater responsibility in Commonplace Coffee
Job Duties
- Ensure every guest at the shop has an excellent coffee experience and continually find ways to coach team members to go above and beyond in exceeding guest expectations
- Build, develop, and retain an incredible team that lives Commonplace’s values of hospitality and approachability
- Create and maintain a thoughtful work schedule for the shop that balances individual, team, and organizational needs
- Oversee all shop ordering including coffee, milk, food, merchandise, ensuring proper supply levels and minimal waste
- Manage day-to-day operations including banking and payroll reporting
- Create an environment of open communication by regularly providing positive and constructive feedback
- Drive strong and continuously improving financial performance of the shop and achieve financial targets
- Collaborate with team members and the Retail Operations Manager to engage neighborhood and community
- Drive community engagement including facilitating public events and supporting space rentals
- Be knowledgeable of all products and engage staff to build their knowledge
- Ensure the shop meets quality standards through regular tasting and team assistance
- Consistently work bar shifts to stay connected to guest services
- Assist in development and implementation of seasonal drink specials
- Create partnerships with team members in roasting, equipment services, marketing, and operations
- Complete required company reports and communications timely
