The Training Specialist role at GDIT is pivotal in advancing the tactical and operational capabilities of U.S. Navy personnel by developing, organizing, and conducting comprehensive Combat Systems and Operations training programs at the Surface Combat Systems Training Command (SCSTC) Detachment Southwest. The successful candidate will serve as a Senior Instructor with specialized expertise in the Ship’s Self-Defense System (SSDS) Air Defense Warfare Coordinator (ADWC) responsibilities, focusing on the tactical employment and operation of SSDS combat systems and related weapons and sensor systems with an emphasis on Air Defense.

This position requires a dynamic and knowledgeable professional capable of delivering both conventional knowledge-based classroom instructions and performance/scenario-based shipboard laboratory training. The Training Specialist Principal is expected to provide deep insights into SSDS capabilities and limitations, the benefits and risks associated with automating defensive systems, threat-centric mission planning, tactical communication, and the execution of pre-planned defensive responses. Additionally, the role involves contributing technical and tactical expertise to curriculum development, ensuring training content remains current and relevant to U.S. Navy operational guidance.

Key responsibilities include conducting complex assessments of sailor proficiency in compliance with ship operational procedures and battle orders, preparing and customizing curriculum lesson plans, and developing criteria to evaluate training program effectiveness. The Training Specialist will also use SSDS-specific simulation software such as the Battle Force Tactical Trainer (BFTT), SSDS Training Simulator System (TSSS), and other related training tools to analyze and improve tactical performance. The candidate will provide leadership and mentorship to peers and students while maintaining collaboration with external stakeholders to integrate evolving tactical and technological guidance.

Applicants should expect to support multi-shift training schedules and extended periods of physical activity, including standing during instruction and training sessions aboard U.S. Navy ships. The position is located on a customer site and requires U.S. citizenship, a Secret security clearance, and physical readiness to support shipboard training environments.
