Job Description

The hiring establishment is a large private correctional food service provider based in Texas, specializing in managing food service operations in correctional facilities. This company is committed to delivering high-quality food services within various county jails, including the Lubbock County Jail located in Lubbock, Texas. Known for its dedication to food safety, sanitation, and operational efficiency, the company ensures that all food service activities meet stringent regulatory standards and that inmates receive nutritious meals in a controlled, secure environment. The company employs experienced professionals who oversee all facets of food preparation, from ingredient procurement to meal service, while ensuring compliance with correctional policies and procedures. This approach fosters a positive and structured work environment for both employees and inmate trustees involved in kitchen operations.

The current opportunity is for an experienced Kitchen Supervisor/Cook to join the team at the Lubbock County Jail. This is a full-time position reporting directly to the food service management team and is responsible for supervising and providing ongoing training to between 5 to 12 inmate trustees, who are non-violent offenders assisting with food service operations. The role requires extensive hands-on involvement with kitchen equipment operation, recipe adherence, food production, and the presentation and plating of food trays. Serving meals to inmates while maintaining high standards of sanitation is a critical component of this position. Employees must be able to stand for long periods, approximately 80% of their working hours, to effectively manage and oversee kitchen activities. The Kitchen Supervisor/Cook plays a pivotal role in maintaining the quality and safety of food served within a correctional setting, ensuring that all processes align with regulatory requirements and company standards.

This position offers a starting pay rate of $15.50 per hour, with additional benefits that contribute to the overall wellbeing and job satisfaction of the employee. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance options, enrollment in a 401k retirement savings plan, paid personal and sick leave, as well as paid holidays after six months and paid vacation following one year of employment. The company supports employee training and development, covering the costs of all required training sessions to equip staff with the skills needed to perform effectively within the correctional food service sector. Special consideration is given to veterans, highlighting the company’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. Qualified candidates must be eligible to work in the United States, have reliable transportation, and be able to communicate in English, both spoken and written.
