The Shift Supervisor position at Applegreen is a vital leadership role within the travel plaza environment. The individual in this position is responsible for overseeing shifts and ensuring that team members deliver exceptional customer service while performing their duties efficiently and adhering to all brand standards and food safety regulations. This role demands active leadership skills with a focus on fostering a positive work environment and monitoring compliance with cash handling policies and procedures. The Shift Supervisor is also tasked with assisting in training newly hired team members to uphold Applegreen’s high standards.
This role involves operational responsibilities such as leading team activities during shifts, engaging with customers to provide friendly and helpful service, resolving any issues that may arise, and managing opening, daily, and closing checklists. Use of point-of-sale systems for accurate transaction processing and adherence to cash handling protocols is mandatory. The Shift Supervisor plays an active part in ensuring proper food handling procedures—from wrapping and labeling to temperature checks—to maintain product safety and quality.
Additionally, kitchen-related duties like prepping, cooking, packaging, and cleaning are part of the responsibilities, alongside maintaining clean and sanitized workstations and equipment. The role requires active engagement in cross-selling and up-selling products, backed by solid knowledge of the plaza’s offerings. Communication with plaza leadership regarding any observations or concerns is essential to sustain efficient operation.

Job Requirements
- Able to stand and walk for an extended period of time
- frequently bend, twist, lift and carry at least 40 pounds
- requires the ability to speak, read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and policy documents, as well as converse comfortably with customers

Job Qualifications
- Cash handling and customer service experience
- shift supervisor or leadership experience preferred
- ability to interact with the public and coworkers in a friendly, enthusiastic, and outgoing manner
Job Duties
- Lead the activities of team members on shift
- consistently provide friendly customer service by engaging in positive, helpful interactions with customers and appropriately resolve customer complaints
- complete opening, daily and closing procedures/checklists in accordance with company policies/procedures
- operate point-of-sale (POS) system, accurately process & receive payment from customers, and follow all customer service and cash handling policies and procedures
- ensure proper food handling procedures are followed including wrapping, labelling, dating, stocking, storing, rotating, and checking temperature of products
- complete with a variety of kitchen-related tasks including prepping, thawing, cooking, packaging, wrapping, and cleaning
- stock, clean, and sanitize workstation and equipment
- actively cross-sell and up-sell products
- maintain a solid knowledge of products and services available in the plaza
- assist in the training of new team members
- follow required brand standards, food safety requirements, as well as all company policies and procedures
- inform plaza leadership of any observations, concerns, or problems that are witnessed or experienced
- execute a variety of other tasks as assigned
