The role offered is a supervisory position focused on the sharpening operation within the company. This position plays a vital part in maintaining and enhancing the efficiency, safety, and quality standards of the sharpening process. The Shift Supervisor oversees the entire shift, directing daily activities including throughput targets, staffing, training, and maintaining good housekeeping practices. This role demands strong leadership qualities and the ability to manage multiple facets of the operation simultaneously.

The responsibilities extend to ensuring that employees are well-trained, motivated, and engaged to uphold high performance and operational goals. The Shift Supervisor will organize workflow to maximize efficiency and ensure effective resource utilization within the facility. They are responsible for scheduling and assigning personnel while continuously monitoring production progress, adjusting priorities as necessary, and resolving operational challenges that arise during the shift.

Ensuring the quality of knife sharpness, knife box integrity, equipment maintenance, calibration, sanitation, and safety are critical components of this position. The supervisor will also lead improvement initiatives and align operations with broader company objectives, including productivity enhancement and cost control. This position requires proactive engagement in both short-term and long-term labor planning in coordination with senior management.

Security management within the facility is an additional key duty, ensuring the protection of employees, assets, and the premises. The working schedule for this role is Monday through Friday from 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM. Job Requirements

  • 3-5 or more years of sharpening and or operations experience
  • high school or associates degree required

Job Qualifications

  • Comprehensive knowledge of sharpening operations
  • working knowledge of lean improvement processes systems is a plus
  • broad range of management skills with emphasis on leadership supervision motivation communication and planning
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • strong team player with a firm personal commitment toward Cozzini and its customers
  • ability to scale an operation without sacrificing efficiency and reliability during periods of rapid growth

Job Duties

  • Ensure that all employees are trained engaged and managed effectively throughout the sharpening operation
  • deliver facility goals by supervising staff organizing and monitoring workflow to ensure efficient and effective operation utilization of the facility
  • complete production plan by scheduling and assigning personnel establishing priorities monitoring progress revising schedules resolving problems and reporting results of the processing flow on shift production summaries
  • facilitate the direction of all sharpening operations including knife sharpness quality knife box integrity safety equipment basic maintenance and calibration shift throughput sanitation cleanliness as well as personnel training to ensure plant and customer requirements are met
  • facilitate improvement initiatives and implementation company objectives productivity standards and cost control goals
  • assist in planning short and long-range labor needs based on production requirements and input from senior management
  • ensure the security of the facility its environs employees and contents and conduct regular instruction in good security practices
