The Shift Supervisor role at Denny's is a dynamic leadership position responsible for managing the restaurant during shifts when senior management personnel are not present. This role is vital for ensuring smooth operations, maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction, and enforcing Denny's brand standards related to service quality and guest experience. The Shift Supervisor oversees a team of 5 to 20 hourly crew members, coordinating activities and staffing to meet fluctuating guest traffic. Key responsibilities include directing team members, coaching on guest interaction skills, handling cash management procedures, and maintaining safety and cleanliness standards throughout the restaurant. This position demands a proactive leader capable of managing multiple priorities and fostering a positive work environment, all while upholding strict compliance with company policies and local regulations.

In this position, the Shift Supervisor serves as the primary point of contact for guests during their shift, addressing any complaints promptly and courteously and escalating significant issues to managers when necessary. The supervisor also ensures that team members adhere to break schedules and employment policies, promotes employee development and training alongside management staff, and uses information gathered during shift walk-throughs to maintain operational excellence. Physical demands include lifting trays, supplies, and various equipment, as well as being mobile within confined restaurant spaces and tolerating temperature variations in kitchen and freezer areas.

This role requires strong communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to perform under high-stress situations. Job Requirements

  • Must be able to lift a tray weighing up to 25 lbs
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, lift and grasp
  • Must be able hear well in a loud environment to respond to employee and guest needs
  • Must meet any state, county or municipal regulation pertaining to health risk concerns about food handling
  • Must be able to serve all Denny's menu products
  • Must possess basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply and divide)
  • Able to work around potentially hazardous chemicals
  • Must be able to lift and carry supplies and equipment up to 50 lbs
  • Place items on high and low shelves in office, store rooms, service areas, walk-in coolers and freezers
  • Must have sufficient mobility to move and operate in confined work area
  • Must work inside and outside
  • Must be able to observe staff and all aspects of restaurant operations
  • Must be able to operate point of sale system and differentiate between monetary denominations
  • Must be able to stand and walk throughout a 4 to 8 hour shift
  • Must be able to tolerate extreme temperature changes in kitchen and freezer areas

Job Qualifications

  • Completion of all e-learning job code modules

Job Duties

  • Oversees a shift by leading other hourly employees in execution of and adherence to brand standards
  • Coordinates and directs restaurant activities during the shift based on guest traffic flow
  • Monitors sales, employee hours, and guest counts throughout the shift to ensure proper staffing
  • Directs hourly employees to fulfill their job duties and priorities
  • Coaches employees on guest service skills, the service cycle, and other guest focused activities to meet or exceed guest service standards
  • Interacts with guests and inquires about food and service
  • Addresses complaints promptly in a courteous manner and notifies the manager of any issues
