The Manager I (MGRI) position at HMSHost plays a crucial role in supporting branch management with the tactical execution of quick-service restaurant (QSR) or similar food service operations. This role ensures that the restaurant maintains high standards of cleanliness, readiness for business, and operational efficiency. The Manager I is responsible for daily operational procedures including opening, closing, and maintaining overall restaurant standards. The position requires close supervision of associates across specified restaurants or points of sale, with responsibilities that include scheduling, assigning tasks, and ensuring compliance with company policies and health and safety standards. As part of the management team, the MGRI assists in hiring processes, recommends personnel status changes such as promotions or terminations, and ensures that all team members receive mandated rest and meal breaks. Maintaining equipment functionality, overseeing cash handling procedures, and ensuring inventory accuracy are further critical aspects of this role. Job Requirements
- Ability to work shifts during various operating days and hours each week
- availability for opening, busy day parts, and closing shifts
- knowledge of federal, state and local sanitary, safety and health standards
- familiarity with HACCP procedures and protocols
- commitment to safety and wellness guidelines
- flexibility to work a varied and rotating schedule
- capacity to monitor associates’ work activities
- non-exempt status under the Fair Labor Standards Act
- willingness to report to general manager or other senior management within the assigned location
Job Qualifications
- Minimum of two years food and beverage experience
- minimum of two years cash handling experience
- minimum of two years customer service experience
- at least six months supervisory or lead experience in a restaurant or production kitchen
- ability to speak, read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and policy documents
- effective communication skills to converse comfortably with customers
Job Duties
- Complete opening, daily and closing procedures/checklists in accordance with company policies and procedures
- assist the assistant general manager/general manager in supervising day-to-day activities of associates within assigned restaurants or points-of-sale
- participate in the interview process, provide input in hiring, and recommend termination, advancement, or promotion of associates
- assign work tasks and prepare schedules to ensure all shifts are covered
- ensure all associates take mandated rest breaks and meal periods
- maintain cleanliness, stock, and visual appeal of display areas
- ensure all equipment is functioning properly
- operate cash register and handle cash transactions following company policies
- monitor and enforce compliance with wellness and safety procedures
- report any safety concerns to the general manager
- perform all health and safety activities as specified in the Manager's Guide to Associate Health and Safety
- place orders for inventory, receive goods, and process invoices
- ensure updated contact information for all restaurant associates is maintained
