The Manager I position at HMSHost is a pivotal role responsible for assisting branch management in the operational execution of QSR or similar restaurant management activities. This role is crucial to ensuring the restaurant is always clean, staffed, ready for business, and operates according to the highest operational standards. The Manager I works under the guidance of the General Manager, Director of Operations, or an intermediate Food and Beverage Multi-Unit Manager II and plays an integral part in daily restaurant operations through the tactical oversight of associates and adherence to company policies and procedures.

The Manager I's responsibilities extend to performing opening, daily, and closing checklists and procedures to maintain operational consistency. They assist in supervising associates during various shifts, ensuring compliance with labor regulations such as mandated rest breaks and meal periods, and uphold health, safety, and hygiene standards in line with federal, state, and local sanitary guidelines including HACCP standards. Managers are involved in the hiring process providing recommendations regarding termination, advancement, as well as employee status changes. The role also requires active participation in scheduling, ensuring shifts are fully covered, and maintaining proper display standards and equipment functionality.

Working hours for this non-exempt position vary and include shifts during busy periods, openings, and closings to appropriately monitor activities and associate performance in the restaurant environment. Job Requirements

  • Ability to work shifts during various operating days and hours each week
  • Ability to work during opening, busy day parts, and closing shifts to monitor work activities
  • Knowledge of all applicable federal, state, and local sanitary, safety, and health standards
  • Knowledge of all procedures and protocols to comply with HACCP standards
  • Requires minimum of 2 years experience in food and beverage, cash handling, and customer service
  • Requires minimum of 6 months supervisory or lead experience in a restaurant or production kitchen
  • Ability to speak, read, and comprehend instructions and policy documents

Job Duties

  • Completes opening, daily and closing procedures/checklists in accordance with company policies/procedures
  • Assists the AGM/GM in managing by supervising day-to-day activities of associates within a defined individual or group of restaurants or points-of-sale
  • Participates in the interview process, provides input in hiring, recommends termination, advancement, promotion or any other status change to the GM for associates within the unit
  • Assigns work tasks and activities, participates in preparing schedules, and ensures that all shifts are covered
  • Actively ensures all associates take all mandated rest breaks and meal periods
  • Ensures display areas are appropriately clean, stocked, and visually appealing
  • Ensures all equipment is in good working order
  • Operates cash register and voids transactions as needed while following all HMSHost cash handling policies and procedures, and maintains proper security of cash at all times
  • Monitors compliance with wellness and safety procedures and guidelines, builds awareness about wellness and safety, and reports any safety concerns to the GM
  • Understands and performs all Health and Safety activities as specified in the Manager’s Guide to Associate Health and Safety
  • Places orders for individual units, receives goods, processes invoices
  • Ensures that the company has most current contact information for all associates working in the restaurant
