The Manager I (MGRI) position at HMSHost involves assisting branch management in efficiently running Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) or comparable restaurant operations. The role emphasizes operational excellence by ensuring the restaurant is clean, adequately staffed, and ready for business each day. Managers in this position implement company policies and procedures, support hiring and scheduling processes, and supervise daily activities to maintain high standards of service and safety. A key aspect of the Manager I role is to collaborate with the Assistant General Manager/General Manager in managing associates, including participation in interviewing, recommending employment decisions, and fostering a supportive environment that encourages rest breaks and compliance with health and safety standards.

This non-exempt position requires a flexible, rotating schedule that may include opening, busy, and closing shifts to effectively oversee operations and team members during various business hours. Essential functions include conducting opening, daily, and closing procedures; monitoring compliance with wellness and safety guidelines; managing inventory through order placement and invoice processing; maintaining equipment functionality; and handling cash register operations following company policies. Candidates must be knowledgeable about federal, state, and local sanitary, safety, and health regulations, including HACCP standards. Job Requirements

  • Ability to work shifts during various operating days and hours each week including opening, busy day parts, and closing
  • Knowledge of all applicable federal, state, and local sanitary, safety, and health standards
  • Knowledge of all procedures and protocols to comply with HACCP standards
  • Ability to work varied and rotating schedule
  • Ability to monitor restaurant associates’ work activities during different days and times
  • Ability to follow company cash handling policies and procedures
  • Ability to maintain proper security of cash at all times

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years food and beverage experience
  • Minimum of 2 years cash handling experience
  • Minimum of 2 years customer service experience
  • Minimum of 6 months supervisory or lead experience in a restaurant or production kitchen
  • Ability to speak, read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and policy documents
  • Ability to converse comfortably with customers

Job Duties

  • Completes opening, daily and closing procedures/checklists in accordance with company policies/procedures
  • Assists the AGM/GM in managing by supervising day-to-day activities of associates within a defined individual or group of restaurants or points-of-sale
  • Participates in the interview process, provides input in hiring, recommends termination, advancement, promotion or any other status change to the GM for associates within the unit
  • Assigns work tasks and activities, participates in preparing schedules, and ensures that all shifts are covered
  • Actively ensures all associates take all mandated rest breaks and meal periods
  • Ensures display areas are appropriately clean, stocked, and visually appealing
  • Ensures all equipment is in good working order
  • Operates cash register and voids transactions as needed while following all HMSHost cash handling policies and procedures, and maintains proper security of cash at all times
  • Monitors compliance with wellness and safety procedures and guidelines, builds awareness about wellness and safety, and reports any safety concerns to the GM
  • Understands and performs all Health and Safety activities as specified in the Manager’s Guide to Associate Health and Safety
  • Places orders for individual units, receives goods, processes invoices
  • Ensures that the company has most current contact information for all associates working in the restaurant
