The role of Shift Manager at Jimmy John's is a pivotal position within the restaurant, responsible for managing all operational aspects during a given shift, particularly when the General Manager is not on duty. This position entails overseeing a team of approximately 3 to 50 employees and ensuring that each shift runs smoothly, delivering fast and accurate sandwich preparation alongside world-class customer service. The Shift Manager must maintain a clean, organized environment and uphold high standards of food quality and safety. Responsibilities include staff management, providing on-the-job training for new employees, delegating tasks, and monitoring inventory control to minimize waste and loss. The Shift Manager also plays a critical role in food preparation supervision, customer interaction, and handling delivery logistics to maximize efficiency. Daily operational duties such as opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and equipment maintenance also fall under this role. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and the capability to resolve customer and employee issues effectively. Job Requirements

  • must be able to read and write and communicate in english
  • position requires bending, reaching, stooping, climbing, repetitive motions, cognitive skills, standing and moving about the unit all day
  • must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • must be at least 18 years of age
  • must have a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, current automobile insurance and a clean driving record
  • must have stamina to work 50-60 hours a week
  • willing to work overtime, holidays and weekends
  • ability to establish priorities and work independently with minimal supervision
  • ability to handle and resolve customer threats and issues
  • ability to handle and resolve employee issues
  • skills to use a personal computer and software packages including word and excel
  • ability to handle stress and high-volume operations

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • prior experience in fast food or restaurant management preferred
  • leadership skills
  • ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • basic computer skills including proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software
  • ability to handle customer and employee issues effectively
  • valid driver's license and clean driving record

Job Duties

  • perform all duties of inshoppers and drivers
  • manage a staff of approximately 3 to 50 employees
  • assign, oversee and evaluate work
  • recommend promotion, transfer, or termination of employees based on performance
  • provide on-the-job training for new employees
  • delegate and be responsible for ordering, receipt, storage and issuing of all food, labor, equipment, cleaning and paper supplies to ensure minimal loss
  • assist in supervision of preparation, sales and service of food
  • forecast food items and estimate consumption per shift
  • supervise food preparation and service operations
  • assist inshoppers during rush periods
  • greet customers, take orders, use cash register, assemble orders and check for accuracy
  • ensure world-class customer service
  • route deliveries and serve drivers
  • complete daily food preparation including opening procedures, meat and vegetable slicing, bread production
  • complete closing procedures
  • execute systems and procedures with 100% integrity
  • complete daily and weekly paperwork
  • be responsible for 100% of cash drawers during shift
  • receive and store product
  • audit previous shift's systems and procedures
  • complete preventive maintenance on store equipment
  • perform other related duties as required
