Job Description

Wendy's is a renowned global fast-food restaurant chain known for its fresh, high-quality ingredients and signature square-shaped beef patties. Founded with a commitment to food excellence and customer satisfaction, Wendy's has grown into one of the largest and most beloved quick-service restaurant brands worldwide. The brand emphasizes innovation, operational efficiency, and a customer-centric approach that creates a welcoming and enjoyable dining experience. Wendy's is recognized for its diverse menu, which includes fresh salads, signature sandwiches, sides, and beverages, catering to a wide variety of customer tastes and preferences.

This particular position is within the Meritage Hospitality Group, which stands as the nation's second-largest Wendy's franchisee, operating over 320 Wendy's restaurants across 16 states, with ongoing expansion. This franchisee prides itself on valuing its employees and fostering a mutually supportive work culture. Opportunities range from part-time positions for supplemental income to long-term careers in the restaurant industry.

The Shift Manager role is an essential entry-level management position within the restaurant's hierarchy. This role plays a critical part in ensuring smooth daily restaurant operations, the maintenance of high food safety standards, and consistently delivering top-notch customer service. The Shift Manager is entrusted with opening and closing the restaurant, executing operational procedures for each shift, and often assumes the role of Operations Leader when needed. This position requires strong leadership abilities to train, motivate, and supervise team members effectively.

In this role, the Shift Manager is responsible for training crew members in food safety protocols and ensuring that the restaurant environment meets established cleanliness and readiness standards before opening and during rush hours. They also take charge of handling cash management duties, including setting up the cash registers during opening and securing cash at closing. The Shift Manager collaborates closely with the Restaurant Management team to develop crew members’ skills and foster communication through regular team huddles and manager meetings, aiming to maximize employee engagement and retention.

This position requires supervising the delegation of operational tasks and ensuring compliance with company policies to 'Delight Every Customer.' Quality, production, and service standards must be maintained to create a safe, efficient, and professional atmosphere for both customers and employees. Scheduling and shift coverage fall within the Shift Manager’s responsibilities to ensure optimal staffing and operational efficiency.

Candidates must be prepared to handle a dynamic, fast-paced work environment, practicing multitasking and maintaining composure under pressure. Physical demands include frequent lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods, with the ability to work in varying temperature conditions. Shift Managers must be at least 18 years old and prefer candidates with six months or more experience in restaurant, retail, or customer service roles. Certification for the Open/Close Shift Manager role and ServSafe food safety certification are required.

Wendy's offers a competitive benefits package for those eligible based on hours worked, including 401k plans with company matching, medical and vision insurance, among other valuable perks. The shift manager position presents a promising opportunity for those looking to start their management career in a vibrant, supportive restaurant environment with room for growth within one of the largest Wendy's franchise operations in the United States.
