The Shift Leader role at United Dairy Farmers is a full-time position requiring 37 to 40 hours per week with variable shifts that may include first, second, or third shifts. The pay range for this position is between $13.50 and $15.25 per hour, reflecting UDF’s commitment to competitive and fair compensation. The Shift Leader position is critical to maintaining the store’s high operational standards and exceptional service levels. Working directly under the Store Manager, the Shift Leader ensures the smooth and efficient operation of the store during their scheduled shift. This role encompasses not only supervising other associates but also actively engaging in delivering the signature Hi Five Guest Experience: Invited, Welcomed, Well-Served, Respected, and Fulfilled. The Shift Leader must maintain vigilance in adhering to company policies, legal regulations especially concerning the sale of alcohol and tobacco, and health and safety standards.
Key responsibilities include overseeing guest services to guarantee a welcoming environment and customer satisfaction, managing the Point of Sale system and gas console accurately, and ensuring the store is well-stocked and visually appealing at all times. Additionally, the Shift Leader plays a vital role in security protocols to prevent theft and manage cash control procedures. Routine tasks such as cleaning store equipment, monitoring refrigeration equipment temperatures, and performing maintenance to uphold safety and cleanliness standards are also essential parts of the job. The position demands reliability, integrity, and exceptional communication skills, as Shift Leaders act as both frontline hosts and operational leaders in the absence of higher management. Job Requirements
- ability to speak, hear, and understand spoken English effectively
- ability to see clearly to operate store equipment and verify identification
- ability to understand and operate store machinery and equipment
- ability to prepare DipSide items with accuracy
- ability to handle coins, currency, checks, credit card transactions, coupons, and food stamps
- ability to count, recognize numbers and perform arithmetic for record keeping
- ability to move merchandise from storage to shelving and displays
- ability to clean counters and surfaces
- ability to tolerate exposure to temperatures as low as -30 degrees Fahrenheit for at least 2 minutes
- ability to tolerate exposure to temperatures as high as 33 degrees Fahrenheit for at least 10 minutes
- ability to lift and raise packages up to 21 pounds to specified heights
Job Qualifications
- high school diploma or equivalent preferred
- previous retail or customer service experience advantageous
- ability to use point of sale systems and handle cash transactions accurately
- strong communication and leadership skills
- ability to follow company policies and procedures strictly
- legally qualified to sell alcohol and tobacco products according to state laws
Job Duties
- provide outstanding guest service following the five phases of The Hi Five Guest Experience
- greet guests warmly and ensure store readiness
- prepare DipSide items including shakes, malts, ice cream, yogurt, sundaes, and sodas
- operate point of sale system and gas console accurately
- stock merchandise and maintain product displays
- enforce security measures to prevent shoplifting and manage cash controls
- maintain store and parking lot cleanliness and safety
- accurately complete time records and customer first documents
- perform other duties as assigned by management
