The role of Shift Leader is integral to maintaining smooth daily operations and guaranteeing that the restaurant delivers exceptional service standards during assigned shifts. The Shift Leader operates as the key managerial presence on the floor in the absence of the General Manager or Assistant Manager, leading the restaurant team with responsibility for operational oversight, quality control, employee guidance, and customer engagement. This dynamic position requires a hands-on leader who can manage multiple tasks simultaneously, from opening and closing procedures to inventory management, staff coordination, and ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations.
The Shift Leader has a critical role in upholding the company’s Quality, Service, Cleanliness (QSC) standards and ensuring customers enjoy a pleasant and efficient dining experience. Responsibilities include managing crew assignments, monitoring service speed, and quality metrics, as well as maintaining a clean and safe environment according to health codes and internal policies. This leader also handles financial responsibilities such as managing cash registers, cash drawer audits, and preparing deposits, working closely with the Area Leader for operational support and guidance.
Additionally, the Shift Leader supports team development by training employees on new products and operational procedures, motivating the team, and enforcing break and staffing policies to maximize productivity. Their role extends to fostering a friendly atmosphere by greeting customers and assisting with their orders, reinforcing a positive customer-first culture. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Must have 1 or more years of restaurant supervisory experience
- Must pass the EPL Food Safety Audit class after hire
- Ability to perform essential functions satisfactorily
- Bilingual preferred but not required

Job Duties
- Manage restaurant opening and closing procedures including security protocols
- Coordinate crew tasks for setup food prep and cleaning
- Conduct inventory checks and update the inventory system
- Handle food deliveries and ensure accuracy in inventory records
- Ensure customer service and service speed metrics meet company goals and standards
- Maintain restaurant cleanliness in accordance with EPL and health code safety standards
- Ensure adherence to safety practices and quality service cleanliness standards
- Prioritize team members tasks during the shift
- Ensure that break policies are followed for self and others by communicating with team members about breaks and serving as a breaker as needed
- Adjust shift staffing based on sales volume for productivity
- Monitor and adjust food production consulting with the Area Leader for guidance as needed
- Train and support team members on new products and operational procedures
- Manage restaurant operations including assigning and opening cash registers handling phone calls verifying catering orders and overseeing company funds
- Conduct safe and cash drawer audits prepare deposits and consult with the Area Leader for support and guidance to ensure compliance with operational procedures during the shift
- Continuously strive to meet or exceed customer expectations and satisfaction
- Greet and assist customers with their orders in a friendly and helpful manner
- Perform other duties as assigned by management to support restaurant operations
