Potbelly Sandwich Shop is a nationally recognized fast-casual restaurant chain that originated in 1977 as a small antique store and has evolved into a beloved neighborhood sandwich shop with over 400 locations across the United States. Known for its toasty sandwiches, Potbelly prides itself not only on the quality of its food but also on the friendly and dynamic culture fostered within its team. As a company dedicated to great vibes and excellent customer service, Potbelly offers more than just jobs; it provides career opportunities in a vibrant, welcoming environment. The company is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring all employees are respected and valued for their unique perspectives. Potbelly also emphasizes compliance with health and food safety regulations and supports the professional development of its workforce.

The Shift Leader role at Potbelly Sandwich Shop is a critical leadership position responsible for guiding a team during shifts to deliver exceptional product quality and outstanding customer service. This role involves not only managing day-to-day operations on the floor and in the kitchen but also developing and motivating associates to perform at their best while controlling costs and boosting sales. Shift Leaders embody Potbelly's core values and maintain a positive workplace atmosphere. They are the frontline managers who oversee the quality control of sandwiches, salads, soups, and other menu items, ensure that all health and safety standards are strictly followed, and lead the staff with effective task delegation and problem-solving strategies.

This position offers competitive hourly wages ranging from $17.25 to $17.75 plus digital tips, reflecting Potbelly's commitment to rewarding its team. Benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid parental leave, flexible spending and health savings accounts with employer contributions, commuter benefits, 401(k) retirement plans with company matching, and employee assistance programs. Additionally, employees enjoy paid time off, discount programs, and flexible work schedules that accommodate their needs while offering real career growth opportunities. Specifically, Potbelly requires Shift Leaders to be at least 18 years old and prefer candidates with a minimum of one year of supervisory experience in restaurant or retail environments.

Shift Leaders must be able to work in a fast-paced, sometimes noisy environment and have strong communication skills to handle customer interactions and staff coordination effectively. They should be capable of managing potential allergens, operating kitchen equipment safely, and standing or walking for prolonged periods during their shifts. The role also entails cash handling responsibilities, restocking supplies, maintaining cleanliness standards, and meeting all food safety certification requirements specific to their state, such as ServSafe in most states or Illinois Department of Public Health certification for Illinois employees.

By joining Potbelly as a Shift Leader, individuals become part of a supportive and inclusive team where their leadership can make a meaningful impact. The position is ideal for those who seek to combine their passion for food, customer service, and team development in a growing and stable company that values work-life balance and employee well-being.
