Job Description

This position is for a Shift Leader at a dynamic restaurant known for its commitment to excellent customer service and efficient operations. The restaurant operates in a highly competitive food service industry, aiming to provide a welcoming and positive experience for every guest. As a key supervisory role within the team, the Shift Leader plays a crucial part in maintaining the restaurant's standards and ensuring that every shift runs smoothly and effectively. The Shift Leader acts as the accountable leader while on duty, overseeing all restaurant activities and ensuring alignment with the business plan set by the Restaurant Management Team. This position involves multitasking across leadership, management, and organizational functions to supervise and support the team members. The Shift Leader ensures all team members are performing their duties to meet company and safety policies, providing guidance and training where necessary. This role requires someone who is not only hands-on but also capable of delegating tasks based on individual skills and roles within the team.

Responsibilities extend to monitoring team attendance, scheduling shifts, conducting operations checks, and maintaining a clean and safe environment for both staff and guests. The Shift Leader must also handle guest interactions professionally, dealing with concerns and complaints courteously and efficiently to maintain guest satisfaction. This role demands a performance-oriented mindset focused on productivity and team morale. The leader must foster open and honest communication, set positive examples for behavior and work ethic, and ensure all employees adhere to uniform and appearance standards.

Beyond daily operational oversight, the Shift Leader supports the Restaurant Management Team by reporting team performance and addressing any issues promptly. Training and development of new and current team members are central to this role, as is the responsibility for completing administrative duties like cash handling, paperwork, and operational routines. Physical ability is important for this role, as it involves standing for prolonged periods, bending, stooping, lifting, and working in fast-paced environments with heat and close quarters.

Candidates for this position are expected to be high school graduates or current students, fluent in English, at least 18 years old, and certified in all stations following the restaurant's training program. Shift flexibility is crucial, including availability for nights, weekends, holidays, and both opening and closing shifts. Reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and proof of insurance are necessary to commute to the workplace effectively. Job Requirements

  • Current student or high school diploma/GED preferred
  • Must be at least 18 years old and fluent in English
  • Certified in all stations following the DHC Training Program
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, holidays, opening and closing shifts
  • Ability to stand for long periods and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and lift 50-75 lbs comfortably
  • Ability to work in close quarters and around heat

Job Duties

  • Follow the steps outlined in the DHC Training Program to learn and train new skills, duties, and responsibilities
  • Abide and enforce the rules and direction given by the Restaurant Management Team and refrain from insubordination
  • Communicate to their immediate Supervisor when additional training, guidance, and practice are needed
  • Effectively and consistently perform required operations walks and Q&A checks to correct areas of opportunity
  • Organize shift schedules for Team Members and monitor attendance, tardiness, and time off
  • Assign duties to specific Team Members based on role and skill level
  • Understand how each job responsibility impacts guests, the team, and overall restaurant operations and success
  • Greet guests, record orders, and serve food and beverages with a consistently positive and helpful attitude
  • Ensure Team Members work together to prepare items on the DHC menu while following cooking instructions, safety procedures, and sanitary requirements
  • Use specific kitchen machinery and equipment such as ice cream dispensers, fryers, and warmers
  • Ensure restaurant cleanliness is conducted daily by delegating the clearing of tables, sweeping, mopping floors, washing, sanitizing, disinfecting kitchen utensils and high touch-point areas, and servicing restrooms
  • Handle guests’ concerns and complaints professionally and calmly to resolve problems according to restaurant policy
  • Maintain a neat and tidy appearance by wearing a uniform and adhering to the DHC Uniform Policy
  • Provide direction, supervision, and feedback to maintain high levels of productivity and team morale
  • Communicate team member work performance to the Restaurant Management Team and address performance issues
  • Train new and current Team Members
  • Balance cash drawers and prepare cash deposits as assigned by the Restaurant Management Team
  • Plan, organize, and implement all daily operational routines and activities
  • Complete all required administrative duties and daily paperwork including required checklists
  • Supervise and perform closing and/or opening activities as directed
  • Establish an environment of trust for honest, open, and direct communication
  • Role model and set a positive example for the entire team
  • Follow all company guidelines for food and cash controls
  • Use products, supplies, and equipment properly
  • Communicate effectively with Team Members and Management to resolve interpersonal issues
