The role of a Shift Leader at Sweetgreen is essential to the daily success of its restaurants. As a Shift Leader, you will play a critical role in guiding the team, supporting restaurant operations, and driving the mission of building healthier communities by connecting guests to wholesome, real food. This position is more than just overseeing operations; it’s about leadership with a hospitality-first mindset that ensures every guest feels welcomed, valued, and cared for during every interaction. Shift Leaders are expected to lead shifts with confidence, energy, and accountability, managing pace and priorities on the floor to maintain smooth service even during high-volume periods. They set the example by jumping into service stations when needed, showing strong performance and teamwork while coaching and supporting the team to deliver exceptional food quality and hospitality.

Strong communication skills and problem-solving abilities are key to handling challenges quickly and calmly under pressure. Additionally, Shift Leaders uphold the highest standards of food safety, cleanliness, and organization throughout each shift. This leadership role is designed as a stepping stone toward long-term management opportunities, with top-performing Shift Leaders having a clear pathway to becoming General Managers within two years. Job Requirements

  • Meet all physical requirements for all roles within the Shift Leader career path including the Kitchen Lead and Team Member roles
  • 1+ year of experience in a Shift Leader or Supervisor role
  • Experience in fast-paced environments restaurant retail or hospitality
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks while maintaining operational standards
  • Ability to speak read write and understand the primary language(s) of the work location
  • Must be able to work at least 30 hours per week
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Job Qualifications

  • Leadership or supervisory experience in restaurants retail or hospitality

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to stay level-headed under pressure
