Job Description

Sweetgreen is a national restaurant brand committed to building healthier communities by connecting people to real food. Founded in 2007, Sweetgreen has revolutionized fast food by focusing on fresh, flavorful meals made from wholesome, sustainable ingredients while maintaining strong relationships with farmers and local communities. The company prides itself on creating dining experiences that not only nourish the body but also foster a sense of purpose and connection among customers and employees alike. As Sweetgreen continues to expand its footprint across the United States, it remains dedicated to nurturing its workforce by providing growth opportunities, supportive leadership, and a mission-driven culture. Sweetgreen values diversity and inclusion, ensuring equal employment opportunities regardless of race, gender, age, disability, military or veteran status, or any other legally protected status.

The Shift Leader position at Sweetgreen plays a crucial role in the day-to-day success of the restaurant. This leadership role requires an individual who can confidently guide their team, uphold operational excellence, and embody Sweetgreen’s mission of connecting people to real food. As a Shift Leader, you are responsible for supporting daily restaurant operations, delivering outstanding hospitality, and maintaining high-quality food and service standards. You lead by example with energy, accountability, and a hospitality-first mindset, ensuring every guest feels welcomed, cared for, and heard. The position is a pivotal step for anyone looking to advance into higher leadership roles, such as General Manager, with a clear path to promotion typically within two years for top-performing individuals.

Shift Leaders at Sweetgreen manage restaurant workflow during shifts, coordinating pace and priorities to keep service running smoothly. They are hands-on leaders who step into any station when needed, modeling strong performance and fostering teamwork. They coach and support team members to elevate service quality, food safety, cleanliness, and operational standards. Effective communication and problem-solving skills are essential, especially during high-volume periods, to maintain a calm and organized environment. Additionally, Shift Leaders are accountable for upholding food safety regulations and ensuring the restaurant environment is clean and organized throughout the shift.

This role is ideal for candidates with prior leadership or supervisory experience in fast-paced environments such as restaurants, retail, or hospitality. They should be passionate about hospitality, food quality, and operational excellence, with a knack for motivating others and building a positive team culture. Organizational skills, level-headedness under pressure, and a solutions-focused mindset are key traits for success. Candidates who want to grow into restaurant management and long-term leadership positions will find ample opportunity for professional development and advancement at Sweetgreen. The position requires a commitment of at least 30 hours per week and eligibility to work in the United States. Sweetgreen offers competitive wages, opportunities for career progression, and benefits that include medical, dental, and vision options, paid time off, and more, making it an excellent career choice for those passionate about the food industry and leadership.
