Job Description

Caribou Coffee is a well-known coffeehouse chain dedicated to creating day-making experiences that spark a chain reaction of positivity and joy. Established with a deep commitment to quality coffee and exceptional service, Caribou Coffee operates with a unique purpose: focusing on what truly matters to both its team and guests. The company's core philosophy revolves around the triad of team, guest, and business, ensuring that each interaction is meaningful and that the best coffee experience is delivered every single day. This commitment to excellence is reflected in their welcoming atmosphere, community involvement, and the cultivation of life-long relationships with guests. Caribou Coffee has built a strong reputation as a vibrant and inclusive workplace, known for its culture that encourages employees to be themselves while making a positive impact on their community. Joining Caribou Coffee means becoming part of the 'Bou Crew,' a team that embraces values such as support, fun, ownership, love, and authenticity to enrich every shift and guest interaction.

The role of Shift Leader at Caribou Coffee is a dynamic leadership position that plays a pivotal role in the successful operation of one of the company’s stores. This position works in close partnership with the General Manager or Assistant General Manager to provide overall leadership and direction during shifts. The Shift Leader is responsible for ensuring that the team understands their goals and expectations clearly, maintaining high standards of product quality, cleanliness, and customer service. This role goes beyond simply managing tasks; it involves inspiring and engaging the team to create an outstanding work environment and a memorable guest experience.

Shift Leaders demonstrate mastery of daily operational tasks with enthusiasm and excellence, and they lead shifts with a focus on team engagement and delivering exceptional guest satisfaction. They strategically think about maximizing product sales while efficiently managing waste, and they take full ownership of the store’s look and feel. Importantly, the Shift Leader is knowledgeable about daily store deployment and the associated roles and responsibilities, ensuring smooth and effective communication on the floor. They are proactive in identifying and addressing team and guest needs before challenges arise.

In addition to managing immediate shift priorities, the Shift Leader takes responsibility for the next shift, ensuring continuity and consistency in store operations. They enforce Standard Operating Procedures and quality standards, actively coach and provide feedback to team members to help them perform at their best. Training new team members on their roles, product knowledge, and promotions is also a critical part of the role, alongside administrative tasks such as bank deposits, inventory management, and product ordering.

Caribou Coffee places high importance on developing its team members, and Shift Leaders are expected to engage in career and professional growth discussions. They embody the company’s core values: Support One Another, Make Fun Happen, Be Yourself, Take Ownership, and Serve With Love. Leadership at Caribou Coffee is about owning one’s impact, showing resilience, maintaining calm in critical moments, and fostering joy in the workplace and community. An excellent Shift Leader at Caribou Coffee is characterized by humility, curiosity, powerful coaching, and a commitment to creating an inclusive and inspiring culture. The Shift Leader is not only a manager but also a mentor, role model, and key promoter of the company’s mission and values, making this a highly rewarding opportunity for individuals passionate about leadership and customer experience in the coffee retail industry.
