The Shift Leader role at Sweetgreen is a pivotal position responsible for supporting and leading day-to-day restaurant operations while embodying the company values on every shift. This role demands emotional regulation, staying calm and professional under pressure, and performance oversight that includes coaching and mentoring team members. The Shift Leader also executes Kitchen Lead duties, overseeing team operations comprehensively.

Sweetgreen values proven leadership experience, effective communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to foster positive team culture. The ideal candidate is highly organized, reliable, and experienced in scheduling and performance evaluation. Food Handler or ServSafe certification is preferred, reflecting the company’s commitment to food safety excellence. This position is typically part-time or full-time, requiring a minimum commitment of 30 hours per week, and is open to candidates authorized to work in the United States who are 18 years of age or older. Job Requirements

  • Meet all minimum requirements of the Kitchen Lead role including those of Team Members
  • 1+ year of experience in a Shift Leader or Supervisor role
  • Experience in fast-paced environments - restaurant retail or hospitality
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks while maintaining operational standards
  • Ability to speak read write and understand the primary language(s) of the work location
  • Must be able to work at least 30 hours per week
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

  • Proven leadership experience with strong problem-solving skills and ability to make confident decisions under pressure

Job Duties

  • Step into any station at any point in the shift as needed especially during peak hours callouts or understaffed shifts
  • First-level handling of customer concerns including helping customers with allergies to ensure no cross-contamination
  • Oversee multiple tasks and systems simultaneously including line operations tech tools and guest interactions
  • Use clear verbal communication to delegate tasks problem-solve in real time and align team and customer needs
  • Monitor food quality order accuracy safety protocols and digital reporting
  • Enforce food safety procedures prevent cross-contamination and maintain allergen awareness
  • Ensure team compliance with restaurant policies and maintain a safe environment for guests and staff
  • Stay calm and professional in high-pressure or high-volume situations
  • Perform all essential functions as written in the Kitchen Lead role including all Team Member functions
