Job Description
Sweetgreen is a renowned plant-forward food company dedicated to promoting healthier communities by connecting people to real, fresh food. Known for their innovative approaches to food service and commitment to sustainability, Sweetgreen operates in the fast-casual dining sector, emphasizing quality ingredients and a mission to make a positive impact on health and the environment. This company fosters an inclusive culture where diversity is celebrated and equal opportunities are given to all employees regardless of gender, age, race, or any other protected status. With a focus on growth and development, Sweetgreen encourages its team members to evolve professionally while contributing to a larger movement towards a healthier planet and population.
As a Shift Leader at Sweetgreen, you play an integral role in daily restaurant operations, supporting your team and bringing the company’s vision to life during every shift. This leadership position requires a dynamic individual capable of stepping into any station as needed, especially during busy times or staff shortages, ensuring that the flow of service remains smooth and efficient. The Shift Leader acts as the first point of contact for customer concerns, providing attentive service with a focus on food safety and allergy awareness to guarantee guest satisfaction and safety.
In this role, multitasking and coordination are paramount. You will oversee multiple operational facets simultaneously, such as line management, technological systems, and customer interactions, all while maintaining strict adherence to food quality and safety protocols. Effective communication skills enable you to delegate tasks clearly, resolve issues promptly, and maintain alignment between team members and guests’ needs. The position also requires enforcing policies and maintaining a safe workplace environment for both staff and customers.
Your responsibilities also extend to emulating the duties of a Kitchen Lead when necessary, demonstrating flexibility and comprehensive knowledge of restaurant functions. Sweetgreen values leaders who remain calm and professional even under pressure, who support team growth through mentorship and positive culture-building, and who show strong organizational skills in scheduling and overseeing performance.
This part-time or full-time role demands at least 30 hours of work per week, a minimum age of 18, and authorization to work in the United States. Sweetgreen offers competitive wages with raises tied to skill acquisition, along with tips depending on location and role. Included are comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans for eligible team members, paid vacation and wellness time, parental leave, a 401k plan, and additional perks such as free healthy meals during shifts and access to the company’s branded merchandise marketplace.
Working at Sweetgreen means being part of a forward-thinking team that champions sustainability, health, and community engagement. The Shift Leader role offers a chance to develop your leadership capabilities while making meaningful contributions to a company that prioritizes values, inclusivity, and environmental stewardship.
