Job Description
Sweetgreen is a progressive plant-forward food company dedicated to building healthier communities by connecting people to real, wholesome food. Founded on the principles of sustainability, wellness, and fresh, transparent ingredients, Sweetgreen has rapidly established itself as a leader in the fast-casual dining sector. With a strong commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility, Sweetgreen not only serves nourishing meals but also fosters a work culture that promotes growth, inclusion, and shared values. The company thrives on innovation in its operations and menu offerings, aiming to inspire customers to make better food choices that benefit both personal health and the planet. Sweetgreen provides equal employment opportunities and embraces diversity in its workforce, ensuring an environment where all team members feel valued and supported regardless of background or identity.
In the role of Shift Leader, you will be an essential pillar in the daily restaurant operations at Sweetgreen, helping to translate the company’s mission into action during each shift. As a Shift Leader, you will provide dynamic leadership that ensures operational excellence while fostering an upbeat and inclusive atmosphere for guests and team members alike. Your responsibilities span across supporting team members in various stations during busy periods, handling customer interactions with care and professionalism, and maintaining strict adherence to food safety and quality standards. By overseeing multiple tasks simultaneously—including line operations, technology tools, and guest communication—you will be instrumental in keeping the workflow organized and efficient.
Shift Leaders at Sweetgreen are empowered to make decisions that impact the guest experience positively, mentor and coach fellow team members to grow their skills, and uphold a standard of safety and policy adherence that protects both staff and customers. This role demands calmness and emotional regulation amidst high-pressure situations, requiring strong problem-solving abilities and excellent communication skills to delegate and align team efforts effectively. Certified knowledge in food handling or ServSafe is preferred, reinforcing the commitment to safe and allergen-aware food service. Moreover, the Shift Leader role encapsulates Kitchen Lead responsibilities, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of kitchen and team member operations.
Sweetgreen offers a work environment that values collaboration, growth, and health—both for the team and the community. Employment as a Shift Leader is part-time or full-time, with a minimum commitment of 30 hours per week. Compensation includes competitive wages with potential for raises upon learning new skills, complemented by various benefits that support employee well-being, including medical, dental, and vision coverage options, paid time off, and access to exclusive company perks. By joining Sweetgreen as a Shift Leader, you’re not just taking on a job—you’re becoming part of a movement towards a healthier future where you lead with purpose and play a critical role in a brand that is making a positive impact globally.
