The Shift Leader role at Sweetgreen is a vital leadership position responsible for ensuring smooth restaurant operations during each shift. As a Shift Leader, you will support the team by stepping into any station during busy times or when staffing is limited, ensuring efficient workflows and an excellent guest experience. Your role will include addressing customer concerns, particularly managing allergy-related requests carefully to avoid cross-contamination. You will oversee multiple activities simultaneously, from line operations and technology tools usage to direct communication with both team members and customers. Clear and effective communication is essential, enabling you to delegate tasks, problem-solve promptly, and maintain alignment between team goals and customer satisfaction. Attention to detail in monitoring food quality, accuracy of orders, adherence to safety protocols, and proper digital reporting is fundamental. You will enforce food safety standards and uphold company policies to maintain a secure and welcoming environment for both guests and staff. Emotional regulation and maintaining composure during high-pressure periods is also important, as is performing additional kitchen leadership duties as required. Job Requirements

  • Meet all minimum requirements of the Kitchen Lead role including those of team members
  • At least 1 year of experience in a shift leader or supervisor role
  • Experience working in fast-paced environments including restaurant, retail, or hospitality
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks while maintaining operational standards
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language of the work location
  • Ability to work at least 30 hours per week
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Job Qualifications

  • Proven leadership experience in a shift leader or supervisor role
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make confident decisions under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to foster positive team culture and mentor team members
  • Highly organized multitasker with experience in scheduling, coaching, and performance oversight
  • Food Handler or ServSafe certification preferred
  • Experience working in fast-paced environments such as restaurant, retail, or hospitality

Job Duties

  • Step into any station as needed during the shift to support team operations especially during peak hours or understaffed shifts
  • Handle first-level customer concerns especially relating to allergies and order accuracy
  • Oversee multiple tasks simultaneously including line operations, tech tools, and guest interactions
  • Communicate clearly to delegate tasks, problem-solve in real time, and align team and customer needs
  • Monitor food quality, order accuracy, safety protocols, and digital reporting
  • Enforce food safety standards, prevent cross-contamination, and maintain allergen awareness
  • Ensure team compliance with restaurant policies and maintain a safe environment for guests and staff
  • Maintain calm and professionalism during high-pressure or high-volume situations
  • Perform all essential duties as required of the Kitchen Lead role including team member functions
